I wouldn't be surprised to see Carson, Orta, Tino, or Bullock transfer out simply because of the new talent coming in.

Add Blanc & Bowles to that as possibilities too.

Blanc can play a number of positions, so I picture him moving over to defense and contributing there. They are in need of D linemen and Carson is a big body. I think he stays, too. Look at Greg Clark. He wasn't highly recruited, never saw the field in his first 3 years, and is now playing a significant amount of snaps. I think he's looked pretty disruptive, too. Carson could be the same.

We can. We needed a few guys to leave to make room for the 14 class anyway. And we all knew Meredith was one of them.

This may be wrong cause I don't know but others had said that he would get a scholarship throughout his career AND it would count against the 85

Medical scholarships are not accounted against the 85 cap, but he is unable to play for us again.

Completely understand, but at the same point if you haven't seen the field yet its gonna be even harder once the new class gets here. I don't think a lot of people are understanding that this class is loaded with talent. I haven't heard anything about Carson other than DD flat out said he was not in shape. Not hearing about him nor seeing him play is why I said he might be buried too far on the depth chart already.

Blac won't see the field on the other side of the ball. I expect him to transfer too.

Sweet! This is a good move then IMO. I say load up this year with young talent that fits CBJs system while we have the recruiting momentum to do so.

That doesn't help us with the 25 man limit (30-32 this year depending on who you ask). But it does help ensure that we will have enough spots on the 85 man roster to take a full class.

I wonder with the losses and SRs how may positions we are losing? I know a lot depends on some of the jrs leaving as well.

Well, he's not seeing the field right now because there are 6 (i believe) seniors on the d-line. They are obviously all better than him at this point in his career, but I think that when they move on he will be needed. I could be wrong, though.

He never saw the field because of his hamstring problems. It wasn't because he wasn't talented...so don't get it twisted. He was a big time talent out of high school.

Really sad to see this. His offer list was unreal & we could have really used a TE with near 4.5 speed. I can't believe a hamstring would cost this young mans playing career. Maybe his calling will be coaching. Best of luck to him.

This is a good decision, he has never seen the field and I don't think he ever would. I honestly think we are on some big time talent and the coaches are having serious discussions with kids who need to make tough decisions regarding their futures.

I think you are right.

why cant we add these open positions to this years class?

So there are two things have to keep in mind. First is you can only have max 85 players on scholarship. This number never changes.

Second is each year you can only sign so many recruits and that number is 25. This will change year to year depending on how many you signed the year before. If you don't sign all 25 one year, you can carry that number over to the next year. So for example in 2012 you sign 21, in 2013 you could sign 29 as long you you don't go over the 85 max limit from above.

Now say 35 kids leave from graduation, early draft, attrition, what ever, you still can only sign 29. The other 6 spots can be filled in with walk ons or other players that are on the practice squad. Hope this helps.

He was praised during Spring Practice as being the most consistent WR we had. He adds size (6'3"), and has good speed...so I would expect him to get some PT in the event of injuries. Why does everyone here think that all the players who aren't getting PT should up and leave? It's called DEPTH. Probst and Christian Harris aren't getting any time either, but they might show up big if we have injuries.

JM had skills coming in. Too bad he won't play. But my hats off to him staying on and helping coach that position. Sure, he's got a medical scholly but I still give him credit for giving back what he can for Tennessee. Class act and VFL. Just another example of what makes UT special.

I didn't say the "should" up and leave. I said that Blanc and Bowles could be possibilities too. I never said I wanted them to leave but they just may decide to do so given their desire to play more someplace else.
