Juwan Mitchell transferring

I figured he would just try his hand at the NFL at this point. This is why it was important to bring in Keenan Pili, given we're now down 3 of our top 4 from last year.

Pili, Beasley, Herring, Perry, and Carter is most likely the rotation.

While the backup linebacker didn’t produce at a high level in his time at Tennessee, he likely would have had a role if he returned for his super senior season. Mitchell has yet to graduate from Tennessee. Unless he graduates from Tennessee this spring, he will have to sit out a year before earning eligibility.

I heard the scuttlebutt about this on Twitter. Not surprised. Next man up might be an upgrade anyway.

I have a different tack on this one. I think he gave full effort and everything he had while he was here…it simply wasn’t very good. Burns that his failed arm tackle for a loss was on Stetson Bennett’s HEISMAN highlights when it turned into that go ahead TD and set the pace in the UGA game. There were several other duds throughout the season. Made more frustrating when the defensive highlight of the season was his interception return against Kentucky after Slaughter obliterated the receiver. Expected this after all the insider scuttlebutt, but silently feared he could come back and any snaps he took would be minus for some of the promising talent at linebacker.

Agreed.... I hate losing guys but maybe its for the best and gives other guys more snaps.

Is it just me, or do we seem to mostly struggle with players we get out of Texas.

He always struck me as a little bit of a malcontent. How many post-high school teams does that make for him now?

Agree. I was happy when we got him b/c we desperately needed LBs, but he's one of those guys that just seems always seems 'unhappy' for whatever reason. His reasons for transferring from Texas weren't terribly compelling either. LB corps has been held together by duct tape these past 2 seasons.

I think this may be a good sign for lb depth honestly. He’s looking at how the underclassmen are progressing and at Pili coming in and thinking he doesn’t have a spot next year. Hate it for him but it’s a good problem to have for us.
