Juwan Mitchell transferring

Unfortunately his presence on the field was barely felt. Hope he finds a place to make an impact.

Was he second on the team in tackles or not? I'm not sure how our second leading tackler could have an on-field presence that "was barely felt."

What am I missing? And why would he transfer?

MLB Beasley/ Herring
SLB Carter / Pii

Imo.

Top 4 ILBs are those 4.

He was 7th in tackles, over 30 less then Beasley had.

IIRC, he left Texas on bad terms. I hoped he would be a solid contributor. Depth took a hit but as several have mentioned he wasn't likely to be a starter and maybe not in the 2 deep. Hope he does well wherever he lands.

All I’m saying is I watched every game multiple times and the only time he jumped off the screen was interpreting the tipped pass against LSU. I don’t know how many routine tackles he made but he didn’t make many game changing plays.

He’s probably transferring for the same reason he transferred from Texas, whatever that may be.

Good luck to Mitchell. He can start at another school and we need to get to 85 scholarship players. Pili will start next to Beasley next year and we have a ton of young talent to support them.

Hurts from a depth perspective, but I get the feeling he had been passed on the depth chart.

I assume (and he probably did too) that he would be even further down the depth chart next year. With Beasley trending the way he is, plus the talent we brought in the last 2 years, he probably saw the writing on the wall.

The most significant play I can remember that involved Mitchell was the play against Georgia on the first td drive. Mitchell had Bennett dead ti rights on 3rd down and misjudged his speed. Also took a bad anagke. What should’ve been a sac to force a fg ended up being a td for Bennett. He did have a couple of decent plays in other games just none as big as that moment could’ve been. No big loss here. Hopefully we can replace him with a better player.

he couldn't be counted on. I know he was suspended twice this season. First qtr of Orange bowl and first 2 games of the season. Mutual agreement for him to move on..

Hubbs said a few things on the pod this morning that were very telling RE J Mitchell transferring

1. JM didn't always do the things the coaches asked of him
2. He expects there to be a lot less drama in the LB room this year

All i need to know. Sounds like he (and most likely Banks) were too busy sewing malcontent to do what was expected of them.

I wish him nothing but the best, but he never really impressed me. I'm excited to see who gets his snaps. My bet is on E. Herring taking a big step forward.
Beasley and Pili are in the middle. I thought Mitchell was out of eligibility but if he plans on playing in college then I wouldn't see him play infront of the 2 middle linebackers.
