Kamara leaves mini camp

That's not how NFL contacts work. The teams often don't honor the terms of the contracts. Why should the players be held to a higher standard?
Teams honor terms of the contracts. If they didn’t they would be sued. They may restructure them or alter them but the player has to agree to these changes. If they cut a player, the contract addresses what happens in that case so they are still meeting the terms of the contract.

AK should be in jail now instead of getting paid millions to play football, jmho.

No. People are insane about this. He threw a couple punches and paid a very high price for it. What planet are y'all living on? He's responsible for the couple punches. People commonly avoid jail all the time for a couple punches. Rarely do they pay $100k, or whatever it was.

Yep. I have zero respect for him. And I don’t even like associating his name with us.
No one hires AK to be a great role model.

If we did that kind of crap currently in politics we'd have no leader at all.

He's a football player. He never signed up to be anything but a football player and the rest of his life isn't my concern unless he and his posse beats the hell out of me on camera.

I still might watch his work after that, though, but it'll just be on a VERY large TV, in a VERY big comfy theater seat, drinking VERY good whiskey, in a VERY nice home all of which Mr Kamara bought for me.

Lawrence's contract just blows me away - no trade clause, first year of 85 million guaranteed...all for a guy that has fumbled the ball MORE than any other player in the league the last three years in a row.

I mean seriously, what does one do with a check for 85 mill, other than give half to Uncle Sam ???
Not to mention all the states they have to file income tax returns for away games. TBH, when salaries were quite a bit more modest 20+ years ago, they likely were lucky to bring home 30-40% for trashing their body. Feds, multiple state filings, agent fee, Financial advisor/accountant, posse handouts.....

He's almost 29, plays a non premium position, no longer a dependable three down back, and gets injured all the time.

Team gets really no 2024 salary cap savings by cutting him now.

Saints tend to kick salary cap can down road (usually to their detriment) so they might restructure. But they would be better off playing out 2024 and cutting him then.

AK has little leverage here...

With so many solid RB's coming out every year, it's pretty easy to find good backs on rookie contracts, and just keep turning them over after their rookie deals are up. A guy like McCaffrey might be an exception due to being such a big part of the Niners' offense, but there isn't another back on that list I would pay premium money for in today's NFL. RB just isn't a premium position anymore, and the risk of injury is too high to pay big money on a second contract.

The 49ers don't have to pay Purdy yet so they can afford the luxury of McCaffrey too...

I agree jail would have been excessive.
He threw a couple punches and paid a very high price for it. What planet are y'all living on? He's responsible for the couple punches.
When two men willfully escalate a confrontation and it results in violence, I'm willing to dismiss it as just a few punches.
When you're the 2nd to 4th person throwing punches to a downed man........
People commonly avoid jail all the time for a couple punches. Rarely do they pay $100k, or whatever it was.
Avoid jail sure... , but how often does the victim drop the charges and the assailant avoid a felony in a group beatdown?

Hopefully Kamara will learn and mature, but I won't pretend he got more than a slap on the wrist.

Stopped caring about AK after he and his crew jumped a man
I feel the same, and will continue to do so, until/unless he shows he has forsaken thuggism, and acts like a civilized human being. Making mistakes, being an out-and-out A-hole, none of us are immune to human stupidity. But the best of us are those who can face up to being A-holes, acknowledge they are wrong, or have done wrong, then change course and be glad they did.

I don't cotton to the hate forever, no matter what crowd, as they know nothing else other than to be hypocritically self-righteous.

People are dogging Kamara for wanting to renegotiate his contract when McCaffrey just did that exact thing.

He also had time left on his contract and was making very good money already and wanted more money and got it.

McCaffrey's exact words on renegotiating: Business is business. It's part of the game. Both sides were mutually respectful the whole time. Just proud and happy that we got something like this done.

What's the difference? Why dog Kamara?

Maybe McCaffrey should have read his contract better too?
Kamara, at this stage, is not on the same level as CMC, nor would I say it’s incredibly close. And that’s coming from a guy who absolutely loves Kamara (wife is a huge Saints fan too).

Running backs are tough position anymore because if you have a top shelf guy, you have to pay them, but if you don't get a full season out of them and you're an average team, at best, then you have to start considering if you get more value from using that money to shore up other parts of a team...although backs like Christian/Kamara seem to have most staying power and value b/c of their versatility in ways they can be used in running/passing game.
Exactly, your basically getting a rb with a side of wr

Which validates that you can't take the Alabama out of all of them.

That is a bad contract to sign, especially when he signed it he was in the peak of his career. His agent did not do him any favors by having essentially half of his total contract value to be paid in last 2 years of his contract with only 1 million of 32 million in guarantees .. sheesh

Wow, how did he agree to that?

NFL contracts are the most hype over substance agreements in sports. Owners make a lot of noise about total value. All that matters is the guaranteed portion.
That said, AK signed a contract and knew the terms.
True and the guaranteed portion is significantly less than what is reported as the deal is worth.,

Have them switch teams and see what happens.

It's actually wild how close their career numbers are. McC definitely looks better these days, but he's also in the ideal system, and Kamara is clearly not, yet he still put up 1200 yards and 7 TDs in 13 starts. He averaged 3.9 YPC in an offense that averaged 3.6 ypc (with Taysom Hill bringing up the average at 5 YPC).

RB's in the NFL get screwed on their pensions. They have the shortest careers and as a group receive the lowest pension. 3 seasons service: $19,800/yr. vs. a 10-yr vet getting $43K/yr. It's really not much of a pension considering they can't start collecting until they are 55 without a significant penalty.

It's a tough situation. My comment was made from a team building POV, but it's true that RB is probably the least desirable position for any kid to take up right now, as they have become pretty much a dime a dozen given the short life span and the way the pro game is played today.
