Athletics can sell a school far better than commercials or actually being a good academic school (as sad as that sounds) could ever dream of.

Not really. They're still by far the best program in the league. While they lose the games against Nebraska and Colorado, they'll play everyone in the old South twice. None of them are likely to beat them at home with any regularity and they'll be lucky to win in Lawrence once every 15 years.
