If this sticks, then that is a very hard hit for UK. That team looks a lot different without him.

Not a bad thing for the Vols, either....

I don't see how he wins an appeal under that factual scenario. The money over expenses is de facto salary. That makes you a professional. I don't see a plausable argument that gets around that fact.

Too bad Cam's Dad wasn't his agent.

Certainly creates a chink in the armor for UK. Calipari is gonna actually have to coach now, as opposed to his playground "dribble-drive" offense.

The DDMO is taylor made for guards and agile forwards, which is 90% of the UK roster, which makes your comment useless.

As for the effect of this situation, it really can't be measured, but is no doubt huge. Although this team is severly out-matched down low, it also creates a big mis-match for other teams. This team with its small lineup has 3 forwards with great handles and can shoot from the perimeter. This creates mis-matches for a number of teams out there.

However, post presence cannot be substituted for. We will suffer the consequences when it counts.

'05-'06 Nova played a 4-gaurd lineup to a #1 seed and Sweet 16 berth. Tallest starter was F Will Sheridan at 6'9".

But they could shoot. Kind of lived and died by the 3.

I think what Ky was trying to argue was that of the 33k, 20k went to pay for school and 13k is sitting in an account to be returned. So the argument was that it was like scholarship. It's a stretch for sure and I don't think Kantor will play nor should he but Kentucky was not the only school willing to take a shot at making that argument with the NCAA.

Find new allowable expenses. Renovating a church comes to mind.

I'm glad for our team that we don't have to deal with him, but I do have to admit I was looking forward to seeing how Kanter's game translated to the NCAA level. I thought he was the most impressive player in the US vs the World game. IMO it wasn't even close. He made Sullinger and Barnes look like your average Joe's. Complete domination...

To be honest, it kinda sucks for the SEC. Although my hatred for Cal allows me to see this from a glass half full approach and realize that it does better our chances at winning the SEC, so I'll take it.

Go Vols!!!

PS: If Kanter would've made it in, none of us want to even think about the way that would change college basketball recruiting. Cal would have Ricky Rubio coming in next year! Hahaha

Tbh I never thought UK had a case for him playing.

I think this year's Kentucky is a bit better at outside shooting, so it isn't like they're going to go 0-30 behind the arc again and depend on a Cousins-like player being a massive moody SOB to win games. They will still be a dangerous team, as long as they're on from outside. And they'll still get some easy opportunities in the paint if the dribble-drive offense goes well.

I wish we had an offense.

UK will without a doubt be a better perimeter shooting team. Lamb, Hood, Knight, Miller, and ... I'm drawing a blank on who led in 3pt% last season... ARGH! They will be weak on the offensive glass, and they will not score much in the paint(with their Bigs anyway). Their only inside thread is T Jones, and being a lengthy wing, is undersized once he steps in the paint. The DDMO is going to have to be executed at a high level for UK to compete with the elite teams(I'm putting any team in the SEC in that "elite" status just yet). That being said, they still have plenty of SEC talent and should be a good to great team by season's end. I think UT and UK have a lot of parallels right now

Live by the three....and you're out in the round of 16. These kids are pretty talented, but I don't see Josh Harrelson :) leading them to the FF.

Easy there killer. I was just saying that now Calipari won't have that Demarcus Cousins-like presence in the paint to clean up the misses and draw 18 fouls a game. The dribble drive offense involves a lot of picks with the big man, putting the offense mostly in the hands of the PG to drive down the lane. Now who is Knight gonna dish too when the help defender slides over? Miller? He is a little lanky to play the 5 dontcha think?

Bump:

FYI. Kanter's appeal was heard today on UK's campus by the NCAA appeals comittee, and will finish up tomorrow. A decision is expected within 48 hours, so the world should know by Friday (or at the latest Monday) what the final verdict is.
