Keenan Pili out for the season

I disagree in that Telander is a student of the game and knows the game unlike a lot because he’s a coach’s son. He knows the role and will adapt very well. We lose depth, but we don’t lose a lot in the leadership perspective.

Umm Pili is the heart and soul of the defense...if you don't think we lose a lot of leadership from him being out then we will just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Terrible for this guy and despite only playing 7 games total for us will leave a huge impact on this program.

When you said we lose ”a lot” in leadership, I disagree. No one person is the heart and soul of anything. Each man is extremely important, and personally I bet you know very little of Telander’s capabilities. Maybe you’ve watched all his practices and know him personally. I don’t know. When you lose an experienced player, you always mourn that loss of leadership, but Telander is a dog, and a very smart, crafty dog. I just disagree with your statement that we lose a “lot of leadership.” Agree to disagree. Depth hurts, but leadership, nah.

You seem like you want to go off on a tangent so feel free to. I know (and said) Telander is talented and we lose very little from a pure talent perspective but if you think losing Pili isn't losing significant leadership then you haven't been paying attention to the coaches.

I clearly didn’t say that. I said that the drop-off between the two isn’t as large as you say. The lost leadership, as I said, but the huge differential is not what you said.

Pili in his short time on the field here has left his mark on this program and is a VFL. Best of luck to him in his future.

Close but Miami has a TE playing in his 9th year this season

Miami TE McCormick given 9th year of eligibility
yeah there are quite a few 8 year guys and some were before Covid belive it or not. Covid and Mormon Missions contribute a lot to the list of 7+ year players probably 80% of the guys on the list. Pili falls under both categories. Will be interesting if he pursues another year.

Hate that for Pili. Very much a leader, as mentioned in the presser "the green dot guy" who had the radio receiver for the D. Someone is going to have to step up and hopefully Pili will be able to mentor them in leading the defense.

I also noticed in the press conference that when asked about the O Line, Josh said "we need 5 guys to act as one. Sometimes it's been only 4...." and not one of the reporters pressed him on that to call out who the 1 is, likely Heard, who isn't giving enough effort. Lousy journalism.
I don't think he is referring to one specific person. The 1 can change from play to play. In regard to Pili being out, that's just plain horrible. I really like him for the fact that he was a guy at another highly reputable school that wanted to be at Tennessee.

I hate this for him. All his hard work and he gets injured again. I hope he makes a full recovery and has a wonderful life.

ACL injury per coach's press conference this morning. Heart broken for this man. He had a game changing contribution to this team for the first 6 games of the season, especially Oklahoma and Florida.

I would not be surprised if Pili decides to become a graduate assistant coach and start a coaching career.

You need a "journalist" to tell you what you can plainly see for yourself?

So you want the coach to publicly throw players under the bus? That is a sure fire way to make kids want to play at UT.

This really sucks. I know his wife and they were really hoping he made it big and got drafted. I hope he makes it somehow to the nfl.

Make this young man a coach on our staff. He knows how to play but can’t. Let him teach and fire up our youngsters.
