Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

Did we lose our 8 national titles? Tradition will always be there. It’s whether these kids think that really matters or not.
Kids don't care about 8 titles won years ago, they care about winning now it's a what have you done lately world.Hate to say it Tennessee hasnt been the flavor of the year in a long time.

True, but a poster tried to compare Harper trying to get the Vols back to the top with Staley taking 5/6 years to get South Carolina to a Final
Four or national title, and it's not a valid comparison. Harper has a stellar tradition to work with, Staley did not. Our tradition has acquired some tarnish,
to be sure, owing to bad coaching, but you'd rather have it than not.

That's not comparable Staley built the program had no pressure to succeed,Harper came into a pressure cooker with all the heritage different situation.Do I think she will win a title here little skeptical.but in reality Harper came into a lose/ lose situation no matter what she does it will never be good enough unless she wins it all or goes to FF often.

Kellie Harper thread I don't know why people over there argue or get mad at me
Here’s the deal, imo. Unfortunately, there are currently no forum members that were active, BP, the age commonly attributed as Before Pat. Therefore, there are currently few sage enough to truly understand the years she struggled to build “The Program”.
Occasionally you’ll run across a post here that explains the ship that began to develop leaks and take on water, a couple of years after co architect, DeMoss headed to UK. This is also the beginning of the internet era. Woof. Now everybody gets an opinion.

Following Candace Parker, and the ascent of Geno, came the hard lesson. College sports programs don’t stay on top forever. Imo, I believe DeMoss returned to help right the ship. But the course correction was underway and she wasn’t tabbed by Pat to lead the next era. The Holly era generated all manners of foul internal issues within the program, few, if any, of her making, but certainly all within her sphere of her responsibility. Insert Fulmer with his politifan baggage. Thanks Phat for ‘98. He hires probably the only qualified/willing candidate available at cost due to the hemorrhaging of funds over at the money cow called Neyland.

So we’ve got this wonderful eclectic group, from a wide spectrum of eras with wildly disparate expectations. It’s easy to piss people off here. Then there are those that are here for that very reason. Try to enjoy the time you spend here. And make full use of the ignore button if so inclined. 😎

Lol
EXACTLY!! Making a Sweet 16 as a cakewalk was then, not now. Those were the days.
You don't believe it's easy if seeded higher, facts state only 25 double digit seeds have reached sweet sixteen since field expanded to 64 teams in 1994 that's less than one per year lol where is the parity you all spew.Say transfer portal changed the balance bs not in Womens basketball same names on front of Jerseys every year prove me wrong show me the facts.if your only going use last year it's happens less than one time per year.

I met Pat Summitt for the 1st time in 1979 and it took her awhile to build the LV Program into a national powerhouse and she also built Women's basketball nationwide into a known entity .There will never be another Pat Summitt at Tennessee or anywhere else. The best we can hope for is a winning Coach who can build this program back into a National Powerhouse and imo we do not have that person on board right now.....hope that is absolutely the wrong take but fear it is not.

Saw a recent meme saying Lady Vols were one of only 7 teams to make last two Sweet Sixteens.

Out of 370+ teams? Our Lady Vols are one of seven to be in the last two sweet sixteens? Okay, now it’s time for the “sky is falling” narrative to lampoon that accomplishment. Not that fans are satisfied at this but it is more than hundreds of other teams can say. However that does not keep a certain clique from trying to find ways to denigrate our Ladies. The culture shift alone should bring kudos from fans. Support for our team should be ever stronger.

The other six teams were Notre Dame, South Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, Ohio State, and Connecticut.
Correct. I'd personally take that as progress. When Kellie took over the program, she walked into a mess that Holly left for her. There was all kinds of drama behind the scenes and there was no positive culture. The stats prove that she has us in a better place than we were in with Holly. The Lady Vols also have the second most sec wins behind Dawn in the past four years. Imo we are one player away from being elite and looking for that person who wants to be like Candace Parker. In a recent interview, she said she came here because we hadn't won a 🏆 in years, and she wanted to be the one to bring it back.

2 year streak is a far cry from 27 years in a row. The meme excitement standard has been reduced drastically in regards to Sweet Sixteen. Our second longest streak is a distant 7 years.
