Kellie Jolly Harper is coming home

KJH is def. not who I wanted as a coach but I remember when the trumpet player was hired to coach the football team and that wasn't who I wanted for a coach either but I supported him anyway. My point is if I supported that jack wagon who had no ties to TN I will darn sure support a VFL who gave her all when she played here and I believe will give her all when she coaches. jmo

I think it safe to say their family income has just went up for 2019 😁
I really hate that arrangement. Take away the time he has spent coaching under his wife and it leaves him with an incredibly thin resume. That makes it impossible to evaluate his credentials on their own merits. I am usually a "give 'em the benefit of the doubt" supporter of Tennessee hires... but there are just too many reasons to hate this one. I think it sucks.

It has worked for them for many years so I can't see why anyone would get so bent out of shape over this. Make a rational argument against it and folks may listen but with no argument to back it up, then it's a you problem and not a Lady Vol problem. Kellie just went all in at the poker table and I'm sure she will do what she thinks best not to go home busted broke.

Kelly succeeded Kay Yow at a premier program. Had the best season in year one with Yow's players, then went straight downhill after that. Recruited poorly and finished 23-39 in ACC play - fired after 4 years. At a place with a winning tradition. Why do you lie?

Why do you lie? NC State made ONE FF in Yow’s early years, and four of five last years were OAD’s, hardly a premier program. The program was on its way down when Kelly took over, but she didn’t kill it like Holly did the LV program.

Where has the school officially released the hiring of Jolly ? Weird we have yet to see any type of comment from the Athletic Dept.

Of course that arrangement works for them. It means a double income with an equal degree of job security. As long as she is successful, he is successful. Most couples would love a package deal like that. Most companies have rules against nepotism that wouldn't allow it. I work for one.

So...………………..

So...………………..
So, there is no way to know if he is a good assistant coach or not and yet he is being hired under an arrangement that ensures that he can not be fired unless she is. Over the last 15 years, he has only been hired by his wife and he has only worked for his wife (who would obviously never fire him). There is no way to evaluate the credentials of someone who has only been employed via nepotism.

We don't need to. She does. It's her butt on the line.

Noticed this today and I find that very odd that ESPN has reported on it, but no official statement from the University. Making me suspicious that it's not a done deal and someone leaked that half cocked to try to force Fulmer's hand.

Umm Rick Barnes was fired from Texas.

Ummmm and will be fired at another UT. Coach Barnes found gold this year in his season. But in the National Scheme of things, he is a great man. He has morals.. He has discipline and leadership. And he LOSES come tournament time. That is what got him fired at the "other" UT and why it will eventually get him fired here. Unless you want to strive for slightly above average........and with our AD.....he may be safe. Basketball is THE tournament sport of all time. He will not get in done.

Yep and we just made him the 3rd highest paid coach in the country. lmfao

"can go a long ways towards restoring that attitude amongst the current and future Lady Vol's players."

Only ONE thing will do that...…………………..WINNING! That is it. That's the list.
Oh and one more thing. IF KJ wants to get a buzz going...…………..at her First Press Conf. announce the following " I have directed Coach Fulmer to contact UConn and schedule a Home and Home every year!! Throw it down...…………………..lets go!!

No he won't. If the administration wasn't happy with his tournament performance they wouldn't have ponied up to keep him. In the tournament consistently will get him a lifetime gig here, like it or not.

Most companies don't have huge buyout clauses in contracts just to get people to go away, either.

Coaching is a different world. It's not that uncommon for coaches to have family members on their staff or in the athletic department. If it's so troublesome, they could just make Jon the volunteer coach. The family income would still go way up.

Several top coaches acknowledge that their main assistants are among their best friends (if not their BFF) and have been on their staff for years. How far do you want to take nepotism rules? Are you more concerned about pay, favoritism, or incompetence? Or does it just bother you to see a wife and husband worjlking together in the same business?

I believe that if this were a problem, Fulmer would have moved on to another choice. If he's dobe due diligemce and it doesn't bother him, why should it bother us? It didn't bother the folks at MoSt. They loved the guy.

I thought it would might impress the team if the first thing done in the first team meeting would be for CKH to write UCONN on the white board with the date of the game next Jan. And then circle the date and turn around and say, "Now here's how we're going to beat them and what it will take to get ready" and lay out a game plan. Then say, "Let's get started."

That would serve notice that the new sheriff is serious about beating the best and has a strategy for accomplishing that. And that she's ready to get down to business and make up for lost time. And to let players know the high ecpectations and the roles they are expected to fulfill.
