Kennedy Chandler's future? [drafted No.38 to Memphis]

I know he’s had turnover and free throw issues this season but it’s funny they believe that, considering he scored 17, 17, and 19 against Kentucky and hit 5 threes against Arkansas to end the season. Also scored 19 at LSU. But I guess those aren’t good defensive teams 🤷‍♂️

I’m just repeating assessments from professional scouting services. His stock is definitely on the upswing over the last two weeks. I think the scout is referring to his difficulty with big athletic guards who have nba bodies. He was guarded by big dudes in the Texas game, Texas Tech, Nova and Arizona. The sad thing from our perspective is that he’s definitely threatening first round again, after languishing in the second round for awhile. I recently saw him as the second PG in the draft. Not good if you want him to stay.

Yeah I know those weren’t your assessments. I was just saying that it’s funny so-called “experts” don’t think he plays well against good defenses.

Personally, I don’t mind him going pro. The more guys we get drafted, the better our program gets due to publicity. We also have BJ Edwards coming in next year anyways. He’s not as good as Chandler but that boy is good.

They questioned his ability against elite defenders, not elite defenses.

I would say no ... different players, different positions. But I also thought both of them should have stayed in college another year ... so feel free to discount my thoughts.

Compared to their 1 yr at Tennessee, Springer had a good year, but KC has edged him out IMO. KC has taken several games over.

Actually, there was conversation (offensively) about him playing well offensively against bigger guards who are more physical. I think he’s be okay as he has quickness. I don’t watch NBA 🏀 so can’t comment if guards post up nowadays.

Disregard as you said the same thing. My bad. 😝. My wife has surgery a week ago and I’m exhausted.

The issue with being small is mostly switching defense philosophy. A 6 foot player might get switched onto a 6’8 player. Then that 6’8 player might iso or post that 6’0. Draw a double, kick to a NBA level shooter wide open in the corner.

My understanding is that some players while testing for pro leagues can make up the classwork they miss? Is this not true?

I’m about 99% sure that’s true. Could even be doing them online. I haven’t given up all hope yet, and won’t until I see that dreaded post that I absolutely am dreading.

I'm still prepared for him to leave.......but I'll say I'm holding 0.000001% hope. So it's there.

They may not have to pass 6 hours in the Spring semester, but they probably still need to be at 20% progress toward a degree before the fall semester. So KC would have needed some credits in fall classes and probably has to pass a heavy load in the summer. That would be hard to do while focusing on the NBA. Supposedly he’s in California right now working with a trainer/coach.
