Actually, Coker had 9 returns on the year.

vs UGA
4 for 93, long of 40

vs Bama
4 for 66, long of 23

vs PSU
1 for 21

That is an average of 20 yards a return. That isn't too shabby.

It was very fast.

Your right kpt. Let's put the scout team in for all of the special teams because that doesn't affect the outcome of the game, right?

That's not at all what I said. Special teams plays are like a mini-offensive series all condensed into one play. They can change the outcome of the entire game. That being said, UT is absolutely horrible at special teams. Thus, the gamechanging events of special teams tend to usually be in our opponent's favor. Therefore, I'd like a conservative approach in that area to limit that.

As for our return man, I simply think that we've had plenty of great returners back there, but none of them have done much on a consistent basis. In fact, our returns have been almost totally inadequate. I think the problem is not the returner, it's the other ten guys on the field. Switching up returners isn't going to solve much. Unless we change the way our guys set up the return, we might as well just not risk putting Coker back there to get the ball to the 15 yard line.

20 yards a return = taking a knee in the endzone. That's not good. The fact that that is the best a UT returner can do just shows how awful our special teams are. We should have several guys that easily eclipse 20 yards per return.

That is the problem. We don't. We have Coker. The rest average less which = less than taking a knee in the endzone. Who else do you suggest return kicks? Morley? Ummm, gone. Taylor? Ummm, fumble maybe? Foster? Too slow. It seems like either freshmen with no experience returning in the college ranks or Coker.

Unless they just didn't do well, I have no idea. They always commented on the fact that no one was catching the ball well but that could be coach talk. They don't really like Hef returning punts because they say he has enough duties as a starting DB.

Returning kicks is one of the more instinctive things in football. A guy either does it well or he doesn't. Some things can be coached but the ability to imagine things that aren't there at that speed is a gift.

Didn't someone here claim that O'Neal claims the have run a 4.16?

Dont really buy the not catching well thing. Something tells me that atleast Swain and Meachem would have hung on more than not. But I'd buy the Hefney deal. Makes me nervous when any regular guy has those duties. But, they give us the best chance for success, so let 'em play.

I think the best thing would be to take one of our fast wide receivers that isn't going to get much work in games THIS YEAR and have him focus almost exclusively on return duties. If one of Brent Vinson, Kenny O'Neal or Gerald Jones doesn't look like he will get much PT, let them focus on return duties and get back to more WR work after the the 2007 season.

All of those guys guys should see the field at WR. I say Gerald Jones for PR and KR and O'Neal for KR as well.

I still like Hefney back there, but with the potential abundance of talent at WR (pending a few LOI's), Jones and/or O'Neal might be good fits.

O'Neal ran a 4.26 as a freshman at FSU. Vinson is around a 4.35.

That wasn't electronically timed(the Gatlin 40) so it likely wasn't too accurate.

As I recall, to factor a more realistic 40 you add .2 if hand-clocked.

So you're lookin' at a 4.46 which is still blazing.

40 times should be done MUCH more carefully, imo.

Yeah, that is why he was considered the fastest player in his class.

Everson Griffen, DE committed to USC, ran an electronically timed 4.45 40 and is 255.
