Kentucky fan thoughts

Seems to me the guys calling the game (ESPN) added to the ideas of what happened to Wheeler and Washington. If my memory serves me correctly, they said something like "Wheeler was slapped down, no call" then the replay crew pulled up the incident and sure enough Wheeler just wasn't graceful enough to make the move he made and he fall down.
When Washington went down while he was on the floor at the other end, with the camera on the action, one of the announcers said "Washington is down, he was hit in the face...." Washington made a misstep and hurt his knee and was covering his face as the replay showed.
I remember saying to my wife why do these idiots make statements like that without waiting to see what actually happened? She replied, well there wouldn't be any drama in that.
One of the announcers was going on about a missed foul by JJJ. I didn't see contact in the replay but the announcer kept on it.
Your wife is right about the manufactured drama.

Your wife is probably right. But I've noticed there are a lot of times when announcers don't seem to be watching the game and just miss obvious stuff. And this goes for football, too. Probably someone talking in their ear or some other broadcast production-related distraction.

Barnes is now 9-7 against KY in his tenure at UT. The fact that UT KY is a true rivalry now is amazing to watch and be a part of.
Kentucky owns a substantial advantage over us in the overall series, but we are definitely in one of those periods where this series is definitely a rivalry. There have been long extended periods where Kentucky has ruled this series in lop-sided fashion, but when Mears, DeVoe, Pearl & Barnes were coaching at Tennessee and probably the first 30+ years of the series, the records of the two teams is almost dead even. I think that it is by far the best rivalry in the SEC. It is must-see TV.

No fan base out there complains about officiating more than UT.
Every game the football team lost except for Bama was because of the refs.
The baseball fans are even worse than the bkb fans.

… When we took our beating I just accepted that we got beat and outplayed.

We had nobody to blame but ourselves… only Alabama football and Kentucky basketball fans would blame somebody else for that beat down.

Kentucky’s offense was clicking that game game but we can blame our poor defense and free-throw shooting for getting the crap kicked out of us.

KY fans should be thanking the refs that they let Tshiebwe constantly go over the back. He should have fouled out by end of first half. I guess Cal's technical worked....they wouldn't call over the back. His rebounds would be cut in half if they called it correctly
I think Tshiebwe does a decent job of jumping up and reaching over shorter players who are trying to box him out. Where we had better success was with our taller posts boxing him out. It was clear we had a plan to box him out as someone was always finding him yet he still got 15 rebounds? Dude is really good

I didn't see the constant uncalled fouls on Tennessee that Kentucky fans are calling for or Tshiwbwe constantly going over the back that you are referring to. Of course it was far from a perfectly officiated game but it was probably one of the better called games that I have seen this season.

The obvious one on Tshiebwe was when he missed a close shot that carried him under the backboard then jumped on Fulky trying for the rebound in front of the rim, then acting as if it was a terrible call

Agree.. he is good. But I've seen that called over the back too many times for them not to call it on him. But he's a talented ball hawk.

I will give ya that....for the most part, the refs let them play ball. KY wasn't getting the benefit of their normal foul calls on the opposing team they are accustomed to getting. Perhaps that's what the fans are complaining about. Hard to fault them when they've been used to getting calls and suddenly it's a more fairly called game.

Pearl didn’t have the same success as the other 3 versus KY. He did in his first half (3-3) but in the second half he was 1-6. He did win at Rupp in his first year (2006), but then lost the rematch in TBA.

He flopped for a call. Some guys pattern their games after soccer players with all the flopping. It was his elbow that got a boo boo but he laid on the ground like someone had cold cocked him or shot him while his team played 4 on 5. Get the hell up. You legs work. You got another arm. Same for Washington. Sat on that bench in a self absorbed pity party instead of being involved in the game in any way he could to support his team. Just sat there playing with his hair and playing for the cameras. Just a sorry display. For all their talent, I'm going to go against the experts and say that UK is too damned soft to win the title. The first hard nosed rough and tumble defensive team they draw will send 'em home. I'd love to see how they'd fare against a team like Texas Tech.

Officials were biased towards us in general due to home court advantage but not egregiously so. Wheeler wasn’t a foul, broadcast agreed after replay. Tshiebwe wasn’t playing well anyway and got away with a few before that. Hard to totally blame officiating when you basically lost by 20

We had some ticky tack calls against us also (mainly on Zeigler)
I’ll take some home cooking if that’s what we got. We all know the “kittens” get it at Corrupt arena.

3 fouls difference for the home team in each game. They shot 10 more free throws at corrupt. We shot 9 more at TBA.

Good points. Calipari pretty much called them out in his press conference; said they need to look to themselves for why they got stomped.
The only thing consistent about Kentucky getting stomped by Tennessee over the last 5-6 years is Caliper.

KY fans always believe that any foul on a KY player is totally unjustified and any call on the opposing team is. They have always been that way. Must be something in the moonshine.

“Any play that ends without Ky scoring or Ky not gaining possession of the ball MUST involve a foul on the Ky opponent”. -Kentucky fan rule book

Someone posted on here prior to the game that Kentucky wasn't called for their first foul of the game in Lexington until around the 12 minute mark of the second half. If that's true, Kentucky fans should just accept that Tennessee played with the determination needed to win the game. I sometimes question foul calls, but really, watching from the viewpoint of my living room, I really can't see most fouls unless it's very obvious.
It has been my experience over the years that many KY fans think they never lose because of poor play or the other team just played better that night. To Calipari’s credit, he recognized exactly what happened and it wasn’t the refs.
