Yeah how is a 7 footer going to guard MJ? He would just blow right by them.

The point is more MJ couldn't guard them. Whose gonna miss more. a 7 footer posting up against a 6'6 guy, or that same 6'6 guy shooting semi contested jumpers? I know if you gave me Shaq or Hakeem or Robinson or Lebron 1v1 against anyone, I'd take them against almost any defender., including Michael. Yes he was a great defensive player, hustle and work ethic don't beat size when its a 6 inch or more difference.

Really? Then dont seven footers just bring the ball down the court then (this excludes Lebron, obviously). My point is, they have to dribble sometime. In 1 on 1, you dont automatically get the ball in the post everytime. I doubt any big man could back someone down that far, every time, and not tire out eventually. I would contend that as soon as they try to put the ball on the floor a good defensive guard would take it.

And anyway, the 7 footer arguement is invalid, because none of these guys were 7 footers. They were also 17-18 years old, Against Jordan in his prime (see the article for the question asked). Not happening.

We aren't arguing if the kids could do it. we were discussing that there are 20+ or more NBA guys who COULD do it to Jordan in his prime. If you read the whole thread you'd see where I said that, and then the discussion changed to who COULD take MJ.

And if you don't think Shaq or any half way decent big man could beat any non center/PF in a 1 on 1 game, especially to 11(and that's no even make it take it, which Shaq in HIS prime could easily skunk any defender ever in the NBA), then you clearly don't follow basketball, and especially not street ball.

And seven footers don't bring the ball down the floor because 5 on 5 and 1 on 1 are not even comparable. Hell, 3 on 3 isn't comparable to 5 on 5. If you're starting at the three point line its simple. turn your ass around, and back down anyone smaller than you or who is faster than you. Eventually you'll either get close enough for a decent shot or they'll get tired and make an aggressive move that you should capitalize on.

Yeah but that's the thing. He doesn't have to shoot semi contested jumpers. If they were to come out on him he would easily just go around them. Ill also take my chances with MJ getting a few well timed blocks and steals.

For what it's worth I want a kid who thinks he's 10ft tall and bulletproof (and thinks he could beat MJ)

I'd rather him make a mistake full speed than shy away from the moment like Harrow/Poythress last year

Did you read the whole thread? The whole point of it is about these kids. Earlier on, I even said that I agreed that there were several NBA players since Jordan that could probably take him.

I still disagree about the big man backing an elite defender down from the three point line, even if the defender is slightly undersized. Sure some could do it, but it would not be 20, I would contend it would be less than 5 (Ill give you the 4 you mentioned).

Its really hard for me to believe they werent joking about that.

But then again, they probably werent old enough to have seen him play in his prime. They may not understand how good he really was.

Exactly. I saw where a duke recruit said the same thing. It's kids just talking. We've all rolled our eyes at things they've said before. This is no different

If you think big men are good at 1-on-1 then you should find another topic to post in.
