Needs some prayers, VN.

---------

Ashely Lowery, starting safety for the University of Kentucky football team, was seriously injured in a car accident early Saturday morning in his home state of Georgia and is hospitalized, a school spokesman confirmed.

Lowery, 20, was involved in a single-car accident in White County that was called in around 4:20 a.m., said Brandon Marcus, a Georgia State Patrol dispatcher.

The car overturned several times and Lowery, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown and landed approximately 100 feet from the car’s resting place, according to Gordy Wright, director of public information for the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

I think its appropriate. Other people might not have to learn the hard way...

No one is going to read that and get in the car and say "Hmm....YankeeVol said I should wear a seatbelt, maybe I should."

It's a useless comment.

All that should be said is, "Praying for the player."

Or if your not religious.

"Wishing for the best" etc

Anyway I'm not trying to turn this thread into a seatbelt debate. We will just agree to disagree.

Edit: It wasn't the seatbelt comment that was rude IMO. It was the seatbelt comment followed by.....nothing. If It was "should of wore a seatbelt, wishing for a speedy recover" I would be fine with that.

Thoughts and prayers for the man.

If the car overturned several times, maybe him not wearing his seat belt and being thrown from the car was a blessing?

Sorry I don't feel bad for people who bring things upon themselves

After being seriously injured in a car accident Saturday, University of Kentucky football player Ashely Lowery was awake and responsive and moving all his extremities early Sunday, family friend and spokesman Doug Stutsman said.

Lowery rolled his car and was ejected, landing 100 feet from the vehicle, around 4 a.m. Saturday and had been sedated in intensive care at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

"Things are looking pretty good," said Stutsman, who is sports editor at the local White County News in Cleveland, Ga., Lowery's home town. "They took the breathing tube out this morning and woke him up. He recognized his family and was answering the doctors' questions correctly."

Former Wildcat safety Martavius Neloms tweeted Sunday that he spoke to Lowery on the phone and the first thing the injured player did was crack a joke.
Stutsman said Lowery can move his arms and legs. Doctors, Stutsman said, believe that Lowery's life might have been saved by the fact that he was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. The 2006 Altima he was driving is a tangled ball of metal now.

"They say they've never seen a car that bad," Stutsman said. "He was pretty lucky."

I feel bad for my nephew's 16 yr old friend and his family from a couple of years ago and he wasn't wearing a belt.
I think you are a little harsh there. If the person was close to you, you would feel plenty of sadness.

Yup, in this case it was good that he was thrown clear.

And yet ignorant people will use this as an excuse not to wear seatbelts.

Maybe we should all wear belt buckles or sheriff's badge and have people shoot at us - see if we can stop that bullet every once in a while.

I'm not arguing that seatbelts aren't safer. Statistics bear that out.

He was just lucky that he wasn't wearing it this time.

I wasn't making an excuse, just an observation. Good thing he wasn't wearing it

Prayers for his recovery. I can't imagine his mother getting that phone call.
