Kentucky safety in horrific crash

Its hogwash that this is a discussion where someone without good common sense would see not wearing a seatbelt as a good thing.

See belt buckle reference above.

Bottom line is he's alive because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. Yes, he should have been, but thank God he wasnt.

Thread is proof that here at VN, we will argue anything.

Glad he survived and seems that he will recover from his injuries. That car looks like it's already been recycled, yikes!

I feel bad for my nephew's 16 yr old friend and his family from a couple of years ago and he wasn't wearing a belt.
I think you are a little harsh there. If the person was close to you, you would feel plenty of sadness.

My cousin died when he was 19(I was 15) from being ejected from his car. He wasn't wearing his seat belt.

A friend died from a rollover accident when he was 22. Also not wearing a seat belt.

And there will be far more stories just like this than there will be for people surviving because they were thrown from the car.

I did it again....back to the recruiting forum. I promise this time.

You know this is not true. If it is you are just a jerk.

God forbid somebody makes a mistake.

Feeling bad and condoning aren't the same thing chief.

See my post below yours. Not wearing your seat belt is not a mistake, its a clear choice. There's a difference, chief.

He's a lucky fellow. I'll still continue to wear my seat belt every. single. time.

I have to agree with this.
No experienced driver forgets to put on a seatbelt, especially when pretty much every car chirps at you for not putting it on. It's a choice to not wear it, and in a minority of accidents, not wearing it 'helps'.

Regardless of blame, a young man could've lost his life. A mother could've lost her son.

This (thread) is the time and place to practice tact and compassion.

Plenty of space to debate your opinions on seatbelts elsewhere.

It's not possible sometimes people are in a rush and forget?

Or are you acting as if he as being purposefully wreckless and choosing to live on the edge?

Either way you are showing your true colors that you are simply a prick.

It's great that he survived; he was truly lucky. Hopefully, he will fully recover and resume his playing career. IMO, though, either you wear a seat belt every time you drive a car, or you don't. It's not something you forget when you're in a hurry, like you might forget a wallet, cell phone, or watch. I can't speak for YV, but I do think it's reckless to not use a seat belt. In this case, it worked out for the better. I wish this could have worked out with him surviving with the seat belt on though, as this story isn't going to persuade anyone who isn't wearing one to change their minds.

thrown 100 feet away. That's incredible. I can't imagine. Do you think he remembers being in the air? How long do you think you would be in the air? Even if he was only thrown half that far and rolled the rest, that's still such a long way to be thrown. I wonder how high off the ground he was at the height of being thrown as well. That's simply amazing that he's conscious enough to crack jokes, answer questions, talk with family/friends.

Seatbelt conversation aside, I'm sure that there are people who are happy that he's alive. I'm happy for him and for the people that he knows that are lucky to still have him around.

If a random story about a UK football player barely surviving a freak accident because he wasn't wearing his seat belt persuades a person to consciously avoid wearing their seat belt, then they have MUCH bigger problems than a seatbelt dilemma.

Wonder if alcohol was a factor

or texting, or exhaustion, or auto failure, or road problems, or animals

in before
"Shouldn't drink and drive"
"Shouldn't have been texting"
"Shouldn't drive with sleep deprivation problems"
"Shouldn't drive a car that has alignment issues"
"Shouldn't drive on a road with huge pot holes in it"
"Shouldn't drive late at night when opossums are out"
"Shouldn't close your eyes to sing Katy Perry while driving"
"Shouldn't star gaze while driving"
"Always remember to spay or neuter your animals"

By the way, all of which in this case would be better "told you so" comments than "Should have been wearing a seat belt" given the end result.
