Kerry Comments...

You're probably right that it wouldn't matter, but at least then it would be easier to play the "GOP is desperate" card in the face of an honest explanation.

The problem is that there is a popular perception that elite Democrats actually think this way and Kerry has cracked the door open.

You are correct about that perception issue. Kerry let what he actually believes slip out of his mouth. Oops.

I think he's allowed a couple of slip ups since the last 6 years have been VERY forgiving for Bush. The difference is, when Bush slips up, the terror alert goes up.

On Real Time on HBO a few weeks ago, Bill asked John about his trip to New Hampshire for Teresa's birthday, and said that Kerry must have been "killing two birds with one stone", aluding to taking his wife out for her birthday, and for being in a key battleground state for 08.

Kerry said he wished he would have gone to 1600 Pennslyvania Ave and "killed THE Bird with one stone".

Even Bill was taken aback a bit by the comment.

Kerry needs to fade away. What he has done and said was much worse than anything Trent Lott did.

Kerry is just bitter. I'd be bitter too if I lost to the likes of W..

Trent Lott can attest to the fact that it doesn't matter what you mean . . . it only matters what people think.

This is very Trent Lott like. The big difference is that Lott's misinterpretation had racial connotations - the equivalent of going nuc-u-lar. This one will be consider much milder.

I agree . . . I don't think this controversey really has legs beyond a day or two . . . Unless Kerry does something to fan the flames.

I don't agree.

I think that this will cost the Dems the majority.

I think it highly energizes the base of the Republicans to go vote when maybe they wouldn't have.

I think it will make Democratic veteran voters less likely to vote if "their guy" doesn't come out against Kerry.

I think it will also sway the voters in the middle away from the Dems and their always negative tone.

Kerry's comments are more dangerous than some here give them credit for.

I think that's all a little dramatic, but whatever floats your boat.

I guess I'm going to have to roll out all of the idiotic Bush quotes.

Kerry has cancelled all his campaign appearances today and is blaming it on Republicans. I'm guessing he goes into hiding until next Wednesday or so...

Ford Jr. calling on Kerry to apologize.

Amazing how current candidates are running from the 2 presidential candidates from 2004.

Heard on the news this morning a Dem Congressman told one of the reporters, "Kerry blew the last election. Now he wants to blow this one too."

Kerry was clearly insulting the soldiers in Iraq. But, hey, Bill Clinton can run to Canada and burn American flags and he became president, so I don't see why Kerry can't be...

If you read the original quote I think it is an attempt (albeit lame) to say that Bush had not studied hard, had not become smart, and was now stuck in Iraq. It was a poor attempt at a joke and I think people are blowing it way out of proportion.

The comments were dumb, mostly because they were A) ineffective, and B) not funny. even if it is a joke, its a lame one. But, no Kerry is NOT clearly insulting the soldiers in Iraq, but if you choose to believe that then you have lost all sense of perspective. :good!:

sort of like how the whole Foley thing got blown out of proportion.

kerry didn't help himself this morning on Imus either. he recalled his post Vietnam activities saying, "I told the truth then, and I'm telling the truth now."

way to go. :birgits_giggle:
