I'll give you one player on the offense that needs to step up in order for the Tennessee to get back to the playoffs: Jared Cook, TE. He's the reason that we don't have a second round pick this year (we acquired the pick from the Pats last year). CJ has a 2,000 yard year and you know that NFL defenses will load up the box with 8 men to stop him. Cook has the body (6'5) and speed to stretch defenses. This kid starts to show some consistency and produce THIS year it will change the whole dynamic of the offense. It will open up opportunities for everyone if you have a tight end to double cover.

Yeah jared cook is a nice weapon if he can develop. The wr size and wr speed in a TE can lead to a great deal of mismatches in coverage

I think though biggest key (other than d)would have to either be continued production at the same level by johnson

Or continued improvement by vince and the wr corp

I think year #2 for Cook and Britt are going to be extremely important to a good season for the Titans. Vince being able to get the ball to these guys is a question mark every single year; I think I'm convinced that he's just about a question mark every week.

I also don't think it's a given that we're going to see our prototypical solid defense. The turnover this year will generate some questions with chemistry, so I don't think we can just assume the defense will keep us in games.

I'm surprised anyone thought next season's D might be good. I'm expecting still another year of "start this fantasy qb, he's playing the titans" stats as far as pass D

johnson is still the key until defenses completly take him out of the game rushing and recieving, when this happens vince has less pressure and someone has to be open/not covered so overall cj then vince are still the key

Isn't Chris staying away from practices because he wants more dough?

I haven't seen that. He always spends the offseason practicing with his own training staff and some coaches in florida. He did that last year

Key to Titans winning? Get rid of Vince Young.

Sorry, I have to disagree with this. Vince showed definite improvement last year. And now, with the "youth movement" going on, Vince has no choice but to step up. I think he will surprise many doubters this year. JMO

I agree. Vince came in a turned the team around last year.

With Vince playing well, our offense is squared away this year if Cook will step up and play to potential in the TE role. Honestly, I'm far more worried about the defense.

First of all as a Colts fan I hope the Titans keep VY as their starting QB for a long time. But to say he turned it around last season is not accurate, I will list the 8 teams that VY and the Titans beat last season. Jags, 49ers, Bills, Texans, Cardinals, Rams, Dolphins and Seahawks. That is one team that made the playoffs. And every win the Titans got was because of C Johnson, if I were a Titans fan I would worry about him getting beat up because he is used to much and having a short carrier because he is the only weapon you all have.

if he were to play those teams the year before (or 2007), Vince's stats would be much worse. Even if you want to compare the quality of competition (people said the last time he started was all against weak teams also), his stats were at least on track to be better

that's what people were getting at; his gameplay improved - pretty dramatically for him. he's not throwing 2-3 picks a game, he's not forcing the ball, and he's just playing better. Did anyone say he was better than "QB __", no, but he did show improvement and an increase in maturity from last season, and people are thinking/hoping he's going to continue to build on that

The titans also both won and lost on games where Johnson played well - he's a guy who unless the team goes away from the run will always get his yards; point there being the games they won, there was more to it than just Chris Johnson playing well, b/c he almost always did each game (he got 115 in the Colts game and 128 in pats game, and when they lost to houston in the beginning, he had almost 200 yards rushing and nearly 90 yds receiving)

I'm sorry, but you cannot argue that he showed a lot of improvement. If you watched him last year as opposed to when he played last, he is miles ahead of where he was. Especially with the stupid mistakes he used to make and his presence in the pocket. That said, he still has a ways to go. Like I said, I think he will be far better this year than he was last season.

Pretty sure you said this exact same thing 5 months ago. I'm not sure anyone is dumb enough to say VY is the only reason the Titans turned it around last year. To say he put his career on the right track is accurate. Like TrueOrange said, he made good decisions and reduced turnovers. This is a guy who's only started about 2.5 seasons worth of games at this point. He now has a full offseason to work with the 1st team and the best WR corp since he's been around, which still isn't saying much. He's not gonna be asked to throw for 300 yds because that's not how the Titans offense has ever been. In their SB appearance, McNair still had a ways to go as a passer.

To say every win was because of CJ is pretty ignorant. Yeah, he was the main reason, but I guess I missed him driving down the field in the last minute to win the Arizona and Houston games.

Unfortunately, most likely though - not being his main team affiliation - he didn't care to watch them play at all, save maybe some highlights and mainly coming from the game against the Colts

I hate to inform you that you are wrong, living in Middle Tenn as you know most of the time the Titans game is the only one on, so I watch every game. Unfortunately.

Then you have no excuse for not seeing his improvement. As I said, in terms of making mental mistakes and overall pocket presence, Vince is far better now than he was last time he saw serious playing time.
