Kiffin signs new contract extension with Ole Miss

Thats a move that sets a program back, they made a move just to make a move. They are getting a lesser coach. They will be doing this again in 3-4 years.
Why would you say a lesser coach? Because he's made mistakes and was fired? Maybe where we was wasn't a good fit. Who knows, but they made a move because they knew they needed one. We know we need to change and won't do it.

Herman was 8 points from a perfect 10-0 season this year. Texas lost to TCU by 2, Iowa State by 3, and tied Oklahoma in regulation, and wound up losing in 4 overtimes. They only needed 3 more points, 4 more points, and 1 more point to be perfect. Texas is nuts to fire him.
Ok? He also had to go to overtime to beat OK St and Texas Tech and only beat West Virginia by four. So he could have just as easily been 4-6. I’d also argue that Texas shouldn’t be losing home games to TCU and Iowa State.

Texas is 78-60 over the last decade, if that is mediocre, how would you describe Tennessee at 66-69 over that same time period?

Tennessee hasn’t even been mediocre. One of the most dysfunctional, incompetent administrations in the country, if not THE MOST.

It is just maddening to watch all of them fiddling around while Neyland burns.

I meant AD as the athletic department as a whole, not necessarily just the AD himself. But I will say, if you go and read the statement, it sounds like the AD made the call. I’m sure he was pressured, but it stills feels like a firing to make the fans happy. But it’ll backfire.

I think this decision was made by the new Joe Jamail. Or maybe by Jamails ghost. He’s probably got enough pull to get a coach fired from the afterlife.

No thanks. If you can’t get it done at Texas, you’re not going to be successful at Tennessee.
Completely disagree. Herman did a very good job at Texas and was on the cusp of having success (i.e. beating Oklahoma).

His bowl record against SEC teams is pretty good too. He beat Missouri when they had Drew Lock. He also beat a top 5 Georgia team as heavy underdogs.

The man can coach.

Your opinion. Obviously a lot of more successful business people disagree.
This entire forum is based on opinions, it’s why no one in here gets paid the big bucks to make these decisions. But if you honestly think, of all the coaches out there to target, Sark is the biggest and best they can get, then that’s you’re prerogative. I, however, will agree to disagree with that thought process. And if Texas went after others and settled on Sark, then they’ll be in the same mess we find ourselves in. I just hope we fix ours before they fix theirs.

I agree. Makes no sense. They’re already mediocre. This meddling just further solidifies it.
Sark is a good hire . I would take him over Freeze he was the master mind behind the best Bama offense ever. Coached a game this year and is part of the Carroll coaching tree funny how people love Kiffin but not Sark.

Agreed. Texas is in this position to begin with because they got impatient and lost faith in Mack Brown to right the ship. He would have. Their basketball program would also be better off today if they had just left Barnes alone (but thankfully for us, they didn't).
What makes you think that Mack would have righted the ship? His recruiting had dipped and he overturned his coaching staff just about every year from 11-13. I’ve made the argument before that once you lose your momentum as a head coach, even at a pace like Texas, you’re pretty much finished. The only one in my lifetime to bounce back was Joe Paterno, who went through a rough stretch between 00-04 and then turned it around.

Honestly, Sark to Texas would be a head scratcher. With all of that oil money and fertile recruiting base; I would think they would have better options.

7-6
10-4
8-5
7-3
Sorry I don’t consider that doing a very good job at a place like Texas. He routinely lost games to teams with inferior talent.

If you think Sark will take them to a perennial powerhouse, you’d sadly mistaken. We can learn from this: don’t fire coaches to placate the fanbase until you have a truly solid hire. Sark isn’t a solid hire and I predict he’ll be fired by year 3 because he’ll have similar runs to Herman’s.

You can't say or pass any judgement on Texas. If they don't get the results they want, then its their right to continue to fire until they get a winner. Also, they didn't fire to satisfy their fan base. They have a standard, and are unwilling to settle for mediocracy unlike us. If it takes firing & hiring 6-7 coaches until we get the right one, so be it. They want a return on their investment. We settled for what we can get.

So Texas will fire a guy who has gone 32-18, played for a conference title, won four bowls in four years, including a Sugar Bowl but we cannot move on from a guy that has gone 16-19 and has one lucky comeback bowl win? This complacency is why our program is where it is at right now.
Exactly, and it started in PF’s last 5 years!!! VolNation please make your voices heard directly to the university administration, BOT, and boosters! A change must be made!

All while turning a blind eye to a monster.
