According to this article (https://www.seccountry.com/alabama/...-kiffin-interviewed-for-maryland-coaching-job), "Three of Nick Saban’s Alabama assistants have been thrown around the coaching rumor mill this season, but offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin took a big step toward leaving this week. The 40-year-old interviewed for Maryland’s head coaching vacancy, according to a report from 247Sports.com‘s Jeff Ermann.

“Per a reliable source in Tuscaloosa, ‘the situation has run its course’ and Kiffin seems unlikely to return next year,” Ermann wrote.

Normally you would think that Kiffin would have no interest in a program like Maryland, but, perhaps, an irreparable rift has developed between Saban and Kiffin, and Kiffin will simply take the first offer that will get him out of Tuscaloosa. On the other hand, perhaps Layla read him the riot act and said that "I can't take any more of Tidy Bowl Land; get me out of here."

The Under Armour CEO is a Terp alumnus, and is apparently ready to start pumping money into the Maryland program in an effort to do for them what Nike has done for Oregon. If that's the plan then I can see how Kiffin would fit.

I can see Lame Kitten returning to a head coach job. I cannot see why anyone would take the Maryland job. Even with UnderArmor $ flowing, it is a tough job. The East Div of the Big 10 is wicked and sports money competes with the Redskins and Ravens.

Biggest question is...does Kiffen think he can do better than Maryland? Alot depends on where Tom Herman ends up (USCe, VT, Miami) and whether any of these schools would have Kiffen. I definitely think VT would not touch him with 10ft pole, but Miami or USCe could use the hype.

Kiffin has the best agent ever. How he gets his under-qualified client these types of interviews and jobs is simply amazing.

I don't understand the connection. Oregon didn't hire a coach like Kiffin.

I don't think he's under qualified for the Maryland job. They're no Raiders, Tennessee, or USC...

I honestly didn't think he'd get a power 5 conference HC job this soon (I know that he hasn't been named the HC at Maryland yet). I thought he'd have to go back to the NFL as an OC as his next step. Just my opinion.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gets it. Didn't think he would stay a coordinator for long.

Lots of talent in that region from philly down into South Carolina and kiffin is a good recruiter. Could be a good hire for them. If I was Va Tech I'd go after him

Does UA have the Maryland contract ? Certainly they can design better uniforms than the crap they wear now

this is probably coming from Kiffin's agent..he knows he is gone after the season...Maryland says they have no plans to talk to him

Maryland: Lane Kiffin interviewed for the Maryland opening earlier this week, according to Jeff Ermann of Maryland’s 247 site (who broke the news that Randy Edsall was being let go). Citing a source in Tuscaloosa, “the situation has run its course” and Kiffin seems unlikely to return to Alabama in 2016. Update: Pete Thamel w Sports Illustrated reports that Ermann’s report is not correct. Per Thamel, Maryland has not spoken to Kiffin and has no plans to speak to him.

I'm surprised he hasn't gone back to the NFL. I'm one of the few that thinks he's a good OC.

Maryland is a sleeping giant. Kiffin is a screaming rat.

Feel like if Maryland were willing to fork out, they could land a top-notch coach. Hiring Kiffin seems like it would be a big mistake. And really, if they're going to go that route, wouldn't it make more sense to hire Ed Orgeron? Kiffin would probably follow him anyway.
