Kiffin to Maryland

Can't imagine why Maryland would take a chance on him.

If he has any shred of success, he will bounce to the next best thing as soon as it comes along. That, and the NCAA scrutiny I am sure he will attract, just aren't worth it.

Maryland is a middle tier P5 team. They aren't exactly a big name school so I can definitely see why they'd take a chance.

Went there for a year back when they had Boomer Esiason at QB - even then it was a basketball school...

About 9 miles from DC and the Redskins, and Maryland also has the Ravens...

So with all due respect, it may take a lot more than UA money to build up football in College Park - Oregon didn't really have any local competition for the football fan's money...

It's not a bad area and they could do more than they have with football, but I just don't see someone like Lane Kiffen being a source of excitement that's going to fascinate fans and ignite the program

Being a Bengals fan, I am hoping the Bengals can get to the Super Bowl (and win it this time),like Boomer did for the Bengals back in Super Bowl 23!!! Montana just had to ruin it.

His NCAA transgressions consist of sending a couple hot girls to a HS game and Willie Mack Garza interacting/paying the Lyles guy; like numerous programs allegedly have. I think Kiffins NCAA troubles, while here, are grossly overstated.

He'd probably have more issues with the local law enforcement and academics at whichever institution that takes the risk. And the fathers of the coeds.

They deserve each other. Biggest douche bag fan base in the country being coached by the biggest tool. Perfect marriage.

Kiffin has the best agent ever. How he gets his under-qualified client these types of interviews and jobs is simply amazing.

I have a conspiracy theory I'd be happy to share here. I'll try not to get too long winded on it.

The facts: Jimmy Sexton, agent for both Kiffin and Saban.
Kiffin lays an egg at USC and get's fired. In the mean time, Texas is looking at throwing big money at Saban. Saban is on the fence and has a contract on the table that he has yet to sign. Sexton wisely uses the Texas offers for Saban an leverages that to get a whopping raise for Saban.

Now the conspiracy.. Sexton: "Nick, I have a client whose stock is down now and he needs someone to give him a break. Can you help me out?"

Now his stock is back up. There are arguments as to why. Some swear he's the best OC since sliced bread and others (me included) tend to think that Alabama, with their level of talent, could be MUCH better with anyone else. In other words, it's hard to fail at Bama.
Consider that he's pretty much been fired from his other jobs (except UT) it's hard to give him credit for being good. Of course there is a lot of orange bias (me included) against Kiffin.

My prediction - so many head coaching positions at the end of this season. He'll land SOMEWHERE. And (in my Mr. T voice) I pity the fool that takes him. Would LOVE for it to be an SEC school for revenge purposes. Would like to beat him on a regular basis.

Does UA have the Maryland contract ? Certainly they can design better uniforms than the crap they wear now

UA also helps to manufacture Crash Dummies..........

That's where they go the design for the Helmets that Maryland wears.

We hate Kiffin so much yet he got us the closest to beating Bama we've been in years, and should've won, if not for the astronomical once in a lifetime events happening twice with Mt.Cody. He also made a guy who received death threats for his poor play at QB under the previous coaches turn into an NFL draft pick and is now arguably the best non NFL QB playing (which translates to, he'd make a team if he really wanted to most likely.) Players here loved him until he left them for what seemed to be (and probably was) greener pastures at one of the 2 or 3 best coaching jobs in the country (whereas TN in its prime is one of the 8-10 or so best) that he also happened to have enormous ties to already.

We hate him for different reasons than other people hate him. He's a douche nozzle, yes. But his only true failed HC job was USC, which to be fair, is monumental considering their talent and how good they are. But saying he failed at the Raiders is presuming there were people who could have won at the Raiders at that time, and Al Davis alone made that place nearly impossible to win. Hell, Kiffin told him repeatedly not to draft Jamarcus Russel even and he didn't listen.

We hate him on another level than the Raiders or USC fans do. He didn't fail spectacularly with us. He gave us hope with recruiting, player development, and competing against our rivals, the three things the previous staff had major issues with, and then left us at the last minute. I still think the guy is an *******, and probably is not a good HC. But to call him bad at his job is ludicrous. The man can recruit with the best of them, he can coach players up, even players people gave up on or thought worthless, and he can call plays well. For an OC or DC on any level you literally can't ask for more than what he does.

And he gives a lot of great comedy as well, I'd watch Hard Knocks Bama just for his interactions with Saban.

The thing is, none of this means Kiffin is likeable. He's a piece of **** as a person for the most part. But that doesn't mean you can't recognize how good he is at what he does. I certainly would take him as our OC any day of the week, as would many places, college or NFL. Because this is a business, and wins are how we as fans get paid. You always take a guy who can give you even one more win.

Not sure that I want to see the OC position open up at Bama. I know it's unlikely that we'll see any change in the assistants, but if we do, it's going to be hard to compete against Bama's $$$ and current success.

Surely you're not worried about our offensive assistants being targeted by Bama? I hope I'm misunderstanding you because save Gillespie, Saban wouldn't look at anyone on our offensive staff. And save Gillespie none of the others would be worth missing.

Biggest question is...does Kiffen think he can do better than Maryland? Alot depends on where Tom Herman ends up (USCe, VT, Miami) and whether any of these schools would have Kiffen. I definitely think VT would not touch him with 10ft pole, but Miami or USCe could use the hype.

I would laugh hysterically if that happened. Would that make him a gas station manager?

I think Kiffin is an good HC when it comes to coaching up players - I think he could have won championships at Oakland if the management wasn't full of dip****s (Jamarcus Russell!?)
