Kiffin to Maryland

Kiffin is not going to Maryland. He's a proven good OC as long as he has the best players in the country.

Maryland is a sleeping giant. Kiffin is a screaming rat.

Feel like if Maryland were willing to fork out, they could land a top-notch coach. Hiring Kiffin seems like it would be a big mistake. And really, if they're going to go that route, wouldn't it make more sense to hire Ed Orgeron? Kiffin would probably follow him anyway.

from everything I've heard the UA guy will cut the check for a big time coach

Kiffin would leave Saban and Alabama as a lateral move to Maryland under Orgeron? smh

Aaaaaah yisssss! Please let this happen! Kiffin vs Meyer part 2. Kiffin vs Franklin part 1. Kiffin vs Harbaugh part not sure. This would be great theater. I mean I don't think he'll do much against them on the field but the television coverage of their various love/hate relationships and the ridiculous recruiting battles will be epic.

this is probably coming from Kiffin's agent..he knows he is gone after the season...Maryland says they have no plans to talk to him

Saturday November 14, 2015

Maryland: Lane Kiffin interviewed for the Maryland opening earlier this week, according to Jeff Ermann of Maryland’s 247 site (who broke the news that Randy Edsall was being let go). Citing a source in Tuscaloosa, “the situation has run its course” and Kiffin seems unlikely to return to Alabama in 2016. Update: Pete Thamel w Sports Illustrated reports that Ermann’s report is not correct. Per Thamel, Maryland has not spoken to Kiffin and has no plans to speak to him.

Pete Thamel went on an obsessive vendetta against Kiffin when he was TN HC. It was your basic NYC hatchet job against Tennessee. I would not give a dry fart for anything the man has to say.

I think Kiffin needs to take a lower level head coaching job first and prove himself there before a Power 5 school takes a chance on him.

Fwiw, Pete Thamel of SI is the one who ran with the story of Manti Te'o and his fake dead girlfriend Lennay Kekua. It's amazing he still works as a journalist.

Can't imagine why Maryland would take a chance on him.

If he has any shred of success, he will bounce to the next best thing as soon as it comes along. That, and the NCAA scrutiny I am sure he will attract, just aren't worth it.

His NCAA transgressions consist of sending a couple hot girls to a HS game and Willie Mack Garza interacting/paying the Lyles guy; like numerous programs allegedly have. I think Kiffins NCAA troubles, while here, are grossly overstated.

I think it's the other things that worry schools..I'm sure they've heard about the women, the wrecked Lexus, and whatever happened at the Sun Bowl to make him dress like the Unabomber

Kiffin is really easy to make fun of, he brings most of it on himself, but he'd probably do well there, at least from a recruiting standpoint.

There's a TON local area talent in the DC metro, and Kiffin is a dynamic recruiter.

He's still a giant douchebag who got fired mid season at an airport, but Maryland is the right type of job for him and I think he'd be somewhat successful.

Maryland isn't a sleeping giant anymore. When they were in the ACC yes, now that they've moved to the B10, no. Having to play OSU, Michigan, Mich St, and Penn St. every year is a killer. That's not to say they can't be a respectable program, but competing for championships is a pipe dream.

The Under Armour CEO is a Terp alumnus, and is apparently ready to start pumping money into the Maryland program in an effort to do for them what Nike has done for Oregon. If that's the plan then I can see how Kiffin would fit.

And they have the DC/Baltimore area that Kiffin could own.

There is a lot of hate for Kiffin. I would prefer to see him as HC of Maryland vs being the HC of South Carolina . He is a much better coach than some give him credit to be.

Kiffin will snag one of these Power5 openings this offseason.

I think there are a couple that would be a good fit.
