Kiffin

Interesting how he's created a rock star status for himself. Last night the announcers were all talking about him when Bama was on offense, as if he was the head coach. Lots of camera shots of him as well. Find me another team where the OC is given anything other than a passing mention during the broadcast.

Gus Malzahn was constantly given high praise when he was the OC at Auburn.

If I am Foley, Lane Kiffin is definitely on my shortlist.

Why?? He was terrible with the Raiders, he was .500 in his only season at UT and he had many rule violations and he had every resouurce in the world at USC and he failed there. He's a great coordinator but he's just not a head coach. If i'm an AD he's the last guy I go after.

Didn't like the fit as our coach. The guy is a good play caller, and does a good job coaching qb's.remember crompton before kiffin? With kiffin he improved as a player. Don't like the guy personally but gotta give him his due as an offensive coach.

He can coach.and damned sure can out coach bajacken

Funny how Kiffin sucked calling plays at USC with so-so talent, but has done much better with the top shelf players at Bama.

It makes a difference.

Until Bajakian gets his players in the fold, I am going to withhold judgment.

For those who will respond with "but we have talent," I will agree we have some talented players but they are young. And we are deficient at the most important position -- OL. OUr current talent is below what Kifin had to work with at SC.

You underestimate Kiffin's ability to talk himself into a better job. OC with USC. Then the youngest coach in Raiders history. Got canned, went to UT. Talked himself into the USC job (his dream job) and eventually got canned. Talked himself into the Bama OC position.

The man manages to fall forward each and every time he's failed. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was picked up as a Power 5 HC or even Florida.

We have talent, our problem is depth. Only time and excellent recruiting can solve that peoblem.

This board is such a cool place because we all have different viewpoints, but some on here only see orange. The worst situation for the SEC was Kiffin going to Bama. Kiffin is an offensive minded genius. I've said it since he came here. I wanted him here in 2009, and if I were building a team, I'd want him calling plays for my team. Bama is a juggernaut because of Saban. They have won all these years under him because of his defensive mind set; however, their offense has been a "don't lose the game/power run the ball" offense under Saban. Kiffin has set up a power offense that utilizes the FB/TE and the best players on the field. He knows how to get his best players open, and he knows how to utilize his players when the team is in a hole. Kiffin won Bama the game last night. Those huge plays to AC kept them in the game, while also breaking all momentum AU had. Then, in Bama fashion, the defense took over late.

Kiffin is a pr&ck. I understand the reasons why he gets so much hate on here. However, at the end of the day, he's a very good OC. I'll never be a fan of him, but as a VOL fan, I also don't like facing him every year either.

Then perhaps you should become a devoted follower and cheer for whichever team he is associated with.
maybe you should take those heart shaped butch glasses off and realize other offensive coordinators play to the strength of the team and have more than 9 plays. Wake up goofy bajacken sucks.

I don't think Florida will hire him, but if they did I think he could build the most dominating football team in the country.

Meh... He walked into a team loaded to win a NC at USC. A team he actually helped build for the most part. He started regressing the team even before the scholly reductions kicked in.

He's not HC material and Foley is not an idiot.

All season long unless it was our 4 cupcake wins.Bajacken has wasted 100s of first & 2nd downs with the same ole stupid WR screen.you damned straight I'd take kiffen and his cockyness (that rubs off on his players) over bajacken.

Imo he wouldnt be the worst hire for UF and I truly believe he'll win 9 games a year at UF. That said No way Foley pulls that trigger unless 10 others say "no thanks"

How many have said "no thanks" to date?

I've had my issues with Kiffin's playcalling several times throughout the season, but Bama doesn't win last nite with Doug Nussmeier at the helm.

The NCAA imposed sanctions against the Trojan football program for a lack of institutional control, including a two-year postseason ban, the loss of 30 scholarships over three years,

Lane was hired to keep the program from completely falling apart during this time. He did his job.

Then why was he fired at the airport? Why did the Trojans look so much better after he was fired? Why was he heavily criticized for his horrible play calling the last year and a half he was there?

I still remember Kiffin's fourth down play call at the end of the game against UCLA...to run behind two walk-on linemen. If Bajakian had made that call, you would be on here raising Hades. But, not Saint Kiffin. To some of you, he can do no wrong.

Ok I don't really get why everyone says he's a great OC. If you look at where he's been an OC and the level of talent he's had to work with, its really been more about having better players than his playcalling and coaching.
Do you think he could have done anywhere near that good at some middle of the road team? How great of a coach do you really have to be to just have your QB drop back and launch it to Cooper? Do you all really think that that play would work if he didn't have the, arguably, best wr in the nation? ALso look at the game yesterday and then most of their schedule, you take the big play potential of Cooper out of the game and they really aren't doing anything they haven't been doing for years and probably lose a couple more games. His success this year is less about him being some great OC and more about having Cooper to bail him out every game.

Sorry but you put Kiffin as an OC at a school that doesn't load up with the best talent n the country year after year and I really don't see him being anything special. He's just been fortunate enough to be able to call plays for an O that out talents almost every D they face at both Bama and USC.

Ok so I will say he is a better OC than Bajakian. But thats not saying much. To be better than Bajakian you just need to run what works, unlike Bajakian who basically says " No were not gonna run those plays, we know those work, were gonna keep running these other plays until we can get them too work, and I don't care how many 3 and outs it takes, we will get these plays to work"

If he did his job, and achieved what the administration wanted him to do, then I doubt you treat him in that manner.

If Lame did his job he wouldn't have been fired at the airport in El Paso after a 6-7 GT team beat his USC team 16-7 in the Sun Bowl.
