Kiffin's firing should send a signal to Butch about...

....about the current recruiting class (and beyond). The losses USC experienced has caused recruits to drop like flies. To keep this (UT) class fairly intact and/or build on it, he and the staff are going to HAVE to work some magic these next few weeks, and beat expectations....which are lower now than they were before we started losing.

You can sell only so many promises. Many will want to see SOME tangible improvement on in this team, and right now, there doesn't appear to be any, except on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm hoping against hope that Worley can have a breakout game against UGA like Crompton did a few years ago, but I'm not counting on it. Not playing one of the freshman, at all...doesn't show recruits...especially the receivers, that there is much hope for the future. So, he REALLY needs to show something there...going to HAVE to burn one of their redshirts to do that.

We are playing true freshmen receivers. Unfortunately, quiet often the QB couldn't hit bull on the butt with a bass fiddle. So that can be used against UT when we promise early playing time.

lane started with a nearly new mercedes and ran it into the ground.
butch started with a 2004 ford focus with a bad transmission, old tires and leaking oil.

The analogy has the right idea, but lets go with a 67 Shelby GT 500 with a bad tranny, blown engine, several missing pieces, a little rust, tattered interior, and sitting on blocks. With a couple of years and lots of TLC, he will be driving the cream of the crop. No matter what he did to a 2004 Ford Focus, we still wouldn't be more than Vandy.

Also, wasn't it a Lexus our former coach drove into a ditch? :eek:lol:

Do you genuinely think that you have better insight into the ability of two true freshmen QBs than the coach who recruited them and has coached them throughout camp and daily practices for weeks this season? You (and a vocal minority) of others seems to think b/c our Jr QB sucks, that two true freshman average rated QBs are going to magically cause us to defeat UGA, USC, UA, and / or AU, then run the table against UM, VU, & UK.

The idea seems to be "Worley sucks, so play the next guy because it can't get any worse". That was the exact words repeated over and over during UF week concerning Peterman. Can't find a soul around here saying after less than 2 quarters of him on the field. Now, all of a sudden, it's one of two freshmen that are going to take over and magically navigate us through the SEC guantlet. Have you ever stopped to think that guy being paid $250,000/month for his expertise may see some things that you don't?

Seriously, what kind of logic is this? :eek:lol:

Somebody on here gets it! My dad used to say that it's better to sit quiet and let people think you're a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Screaming for a freshmen quarterback to play is opening your mouth to remove all doubt! This staff knows what they are doing. Worley is the best option right now. Does it suck to be in this boat, yes. But there's no sense in drilling holes in the floor of it to sink it! Let this staff do their job. Tennessee is 3 years away from relevance in the SEC East. Patience folks, patience.

There is no hidden meaning, but mounting losses and near misses to teams you should beat handily WILL hurt recruiting. It did to Kiffin, and it WILL hurt CBJ if this team doesn't improve even a little over the past few years.

You do understand right, that this is his first year? Maybe that slipped your mind when making this thread.

Anyway thought i would impart that bit of knowledge to you in hopes that you wont male ridiculous statements in the future.

Jeez. I'm no longer surprised by any posts on here anymore. When will it stop?

Us losing games, can be masked and we can still recruit well.

"See what we need is good players at each position, so you would be competing for a starting position, once you arrive on campus"

Sell playing time to the recruits! Us losing, just reenforces the fact that we need help at every position and that they will not ride the bench but they will compete for a starting position as freshmen. Why do you think James, Fulton, Stone, all came to U.T.??? Immediate playing time!!!!!!!!!!

Now that I think about it, I wonder if Haden the AD out at USC wouldn't offer Jon Gruden 10 million a year to coach the Trojans? That's how much it would probably take to get him to coach in college.

for $10 mil they can get saban to LA

They lost out on a lot of recruits they otherwise could have been in on. Some in last year's class and some in this year's. It's going to be months before they make a hire, and who is to say they get the "right hire" this time around? They didn't on the last one.

The last hire was the only one that would take the job. I'm not sure candidates will be beating the doors down applying for the job due to Kiffin's stellar reputation.

Nah, Saban isn't leaving Alabama. He's not going to stop until he's got more championships at Alabama than Bear Bryant had.
