Kiffin's Tweet

Here is what another poster on 3rdSat in Blogtober had to say: "It’s a violation and he’s apparently aware of it as he has taken down that post .Here’s the quote from the NCAA regarding Twitter:
“We view that option on Twitter the same as we view normal e-mails,” said Cameron Schuh, Associate Director of Public and Media Relations for the NCAA. “It’s just you can’t post those (direct messages) on your main page. [...] As long as coaches are on there talking about what they’re doing with their day and how their practice went or things like that … not getting into specific terms, that’s fine. They can’t talk about a person they’re recruiting, or they can’t use it to talk about their whereabouts on a recruiting trip.”

Per NCAA rules:

13.10.2 Comments Before Signing.
Before the signing of a prospective student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent or an institution's written offer of admission and/or financial aid, a member institution may comment publicly only to the extent of confirming its recruitment of the prospective student-athlete. The institution may not comment generally about the prospective student-athlete's ability or the contribution that the prospective student-athlete might make to the institution's team; further, the institution is precluded from commenting in any manner as to the likelihood of the prospective student-athlete's signing with that institution. Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete's eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1. (Revised: 1/14/97)

So the comments do not have to be made to the "media" to be a violation. Only to the public. Additionally, the rule is pretty clear that names cannot be mentioned except in the context of stating the staff is recruiting someone - i.e., not in the case where they are saying someone committed.

It's probably intentional. We'll all understand it someday.

Look for an update on ESPN as the story develops into the secondary violation it appears to have been... oops.

I'll probably never get it. I'm even slower than Meyer.

As long as you don't cry about it to your AD who then cries to the SEC, you won't look that bad when it becomes evident. :)

j/k, of course, 19.

LG, is the Gator who will eventually be most impressed by Kiffin's ability to think so far ahead on these media plays. He STILL thinks it was a slip of the tongue. :p

And the comments have been removed from Facebook and Twitter.

I don't think Lane is in charge of writing these or posting them, but someone should really know better.

this is genius...now copeland's commitment to the vols makes the national media instead of just the recruiting boards...fantastic move by kiffin, keep it up.

Okay, I just read where it was one of Lane's personal assistants and it was their first day on the job....LOL.

First day on the job and you commit a secondary violation. I bet Lane promoted him on the spot!

That's too funny. First day on the job for someone and they've already scored a secondary violation. Oh well... it can only get better on day 2.

It was one of Lane's personal assistants, and it was his first day on the job," Hamilton explained. "He went ahead and posted the message on Lane's Twitter account without asking compliance. It was an inadvertant error, but it's still a violation and one of those things where you've got to know what the deal is. We'll report it."

I'd like to find that person and punch them in the face - shouldn't they know atleast a little about Kiffin's job and college football if they're going to get that job? Even some 10-year-old commented on Kiffin's status when he posted that on FB even saying "uh coach you're not supposed to say that" or whatever.

There could be an opening, but let's see how tomorrow goes first. Then, you might want to forward your resume.

That's not the point. The point is that someone is that stupid and they've already blown the first few way out of proportion since it's Kiffin and UT.

I hope Kiff fires that guy just like the driver!

How many people can Hamilton retread?

What if that guy is Gruden and it was really the only way to make room for him? It takes these NFL guys a little time to learn not to call people by their names.
