kill the grumbling about CJH

Like Heupel, but he needs a different DC. Heupel should get 2 more years, then we will see. He's gotta stop being their best friend and be a coach
The dc is good we have won because of it. We just needed a better qb this year and some better play calling. I like Milton as he had all the potential to be a superstar except he is a little slow in his decisions and that is what caused all the bad throws and offense not working right. The defense broke down the last few games because they were on the field so much. You can’t keep going 3 and outs against great teams and not expect your defense to get wore out. If CJH would slow the offense down and can play a little power football a series every know and then we would be fine.

It's starting. The armchair AD's are starting to pop up. "CJH ain't ****!" You want Jimbo? I hear he's looking. Anybody see Gruden on campus? Maybe someone has Urban Meyer on speed dial? No?

Seriously.....he's made us relevant again for the first time in a lot of our fans lifetimes. We actually sat at the #1 ranking. Yes it was for about a week last year. But for a team that's barely sniffed a top 25 ranking in almost 2 decades, we should be over the top thrilled, even with this disappointing season. We beat Alabama for the first time since Reagan was in office. We beat Florida for the first time since we stopped knowing which bathroom to use. We got some monkeys off our back.

You think there wouldn't be setbacks? We play in the SEC. We play in what is arguably the best division in the best conference in the NCAA. We had a Heisman quality QB last season. Who do you think saw that potential? Who turned a wide receiver corps of nobodies into NFL players? Who made us the best running team in the SEC? Who is about to put some running backs in the NFL? you think all that came from a talentless hack? Are we where we want to be? heck no. The rebuild is still in process. Probably will take 3-4 more years, at best, before we can sustainably compete with Alabama and Georgia. And we better hope FL doesn't get their legs back under them in the mean time. "Well, we got stomped by SC, Mizzou, and FL and they are garbage...." yep. We had bad games. We got exposed. We curb stomp UCONN and start crowing about "Vols by Fiddy!" against Bama. 75% of the people on VN are turnip seeds who believe their own hype. Sit down. Shut up. The adults are talking. We have work to do. He's the coach and will be for several more years.
Hey look, CJH screwed up 2 games in a row!!! Maybe we do need to start looking around at who is available!

1) CJH should have to answer for sending Milton out there week after week
2) CJH should have to answer for his reluctance to make changes to his staff. Butch made the same mistakes . This is freaking UT we should hire the best coordinators available, not promote unqualified staffers.
3) CJH should have to answer for not making more use fo the transfer portal. We are signing 3 star players when their are proven players available in the portal.
4) CJH should have to answer for horrible play calling all year long, assuming he is calling plays and if he is not making the calls he should have to answer for allowing the first year coordinator to make the calls.

You realize that CJH has a boss and does in fact answer for everything that happened in the football program this year.
You not being in the loop on that is never going to change

There is not one person in this forum that can fire or hire a coach. Lots of our competitors come in here to stir things up with the fan base, and sit back and laugh at all the comments reposting a lot of them on their board. Of course we overreact that’s why we’re called fanatics. Money talks in BS walks and right now folks the money is coming in bundles.

This is the first year Heupel has been here without the NCAA cloud over the program & not playing with about 10 less scholarships. He’s got 4 yrs from now IMO. His contract is for 6 I believe. He ain’t going anywhere the next year or two unless he decides.

The guy who gets 9 million dollars per year to coach...make your team better....wins games, is not free of criticism. Sorry...folks need to put their big boy pants on and realize that fact.
This is true but…. With the dumpster fire he inherited you can’t expect to catch Bama and Georgia overnight. How soon people forget! Kirby was gifted a perennial 10 win program. And Saban is once in a lifetime coach at the place that knows how to work the system.

Heupel will get at least until 2025 to finish rebuilding the roster and then needs to start consistently competing for SEC and national championships by then.

I like Heupel but he needs assistants around who will challenge him. Halze doesn’t have the resume to be an offensive coordinator in the SEC and is a “yes”man. Banks is still a big question for me. Martinez and he own the secondary and they have not been good for 3 years.

Sorry, but it's impossible for me to take anything you say seriously after reading your statement in bold.

Someone that doesn't know the history of the Tenessee-Alabama rivalry better than this really doesn't need to be climbing on his soap box about being a proper fan.

I like Heupel but unless he figures out that in the SEC that you do not compete without quality offensive and defensive lines he will not be here long. I think both of our lines are highly overrated.

No one said catch UGA or BAMA overnight....Did the dumpster fire cause him to kick FGs from 50 plus down big the last 2 games ala Butch Jones style...Play very undisciplined football...play calls have been very questionable...etc etc.

Again...you make 9 million you get questioned and criticized....it goes with the pay grade.

Keep in mind that CJH inherited a depleted roster and is handicapped by NCAA penalties limiting scholarships, visits, and evaluations which will continue for at least the next two years.

Lol, we lost to teams currently ranked 10, 8, and 1, and we are ranked 24 . What were your expectations for this season?

If all the criticism of Heupel and his assistant coaches were measured and reasonable like this, I think we'd all be getting along just fine.

It's the childish rants and vitriol that get things rolling.

Anyway, I agree with you, Tall Guy: the play this season has been unacceptable, and CJH must find a path to better results. We need to be competitive in every single game.

That's gonna take more leadership (coach and player) and more recruiting. Not because, as one guy said, I "think Mizzou out-talented us???" No. But because Mizzou out-competed us. They had 105 lads who wanted it more, walked onto the field focused, and played their hearts out. We didn't.

So we need a different mindset in the locker room. A lot of that is the upper class leadership. Rotate out the seniors from this year, and see if we have better leaders among the juniors and seniors of next year.

That's what I see as Josh's job #1. Make the team perpetually hungry, even while upgrading the talent level and developing the hell out of them in the off-season.

And see, we can say all that without a single "fahr this guy" rant. We can agree on all this, and still 100% support our coaches. Reasonable conversation among reasonable Vols fans. Love that.

Go Vols!
Play calling and execution have been questionable at times, but here's a reframe: during a transition year, UT is ranked 24 after losing 3 games to teams currently ranked 1, 8, and 10. Coach Heupel is taking this team in the right direction and quickly.

Lol....what the hell does that have to do with someone that makes 9 million being untouchable for criticism. And my expectations....Look like a football team...looked displine...fight...compete...Things I didn't see quite a bit this year. And criticism comes with his pay grade.

What did you expect....just pretty uniforms and the nice boats in the Vol Navy?

Remember the JC Penny and Service Merchandise catalogs at Christmas as a kid? 2” thick …. they had it all. Toys, clothes, furniture, and porn. You could stare at a lady modeling a lingerie and two pages later you’re looking at the Optimus Prime trailer that was made to transform into a service station for Optimus the semi truck. Heaven at age 12

1 he is the coach and plays who he sees as best players on the team.
2 we are still 3 yrs out of a dumpster fire and depleted roster for another yr. No great coordinator is going to come here right now plus CJH isn’t giving up HIS offense. DC has been good as stated before
3 look at recruiting we are recruiting well and have landed some great recruits from the portal.
4 see number 2. CJH calls the plays and but how are you going to prove it’s bad play calling or that it was actually the QBs fault or the receivers fault. He still some 3/4 of his games this year. That is a good year. I am only concerned with him having our team ready for road games as he has a bad record on road games.
