Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

I think you're right. Based on things that have been said vaguely. I think this is how it's went to far.

Dawn Staley - Made her say no
Lindsay Gottlieb - Made her say no

Now the search has really began.

Brenda Frese - Would be a floor raising hire but would anger the core.
Jeff Walz - See above

Now here is where I think we have a legit 3 candidates that'll hopefully satisfy the majority:

Jennie Baranczyk
Kim Stephens
Lisa Fortier
Frese and Walz are using Tennessee to get a raise the ole Mike Gundy approach

I also think Baranczyk is waiting for the Iowa job to open imo

Can someone kindly give me a reader's digest version of what, exactly, went down between Kara Lawson and UT?
Something to do with the Board at Tennessee being all white and her needing to resign from the board when she became Dukes coach plus was not picked to coach when Kellie was hired. This is about what has been reported on why she is not a candidate.

Nothing terrible like some are making it out. She basically just said there’s not enough Black HCs at UT. She wasn’t bashing UT at all, just simply saying she’d like to see more HC of color that resembles the athletic makeup of the university. Some are claiming she was race baiting, but she wasn’t at all.

She was on the BoT but was told if she took a college coaching job elsewhere she’d be removed

It was the right thing to do. Easy to see the conflict of interest there, no?

Didn’t stop Kara from basically accusing them of being racist for letting her go.

It seems there is a portion of the fan base that has little faith in Danny White. Why that is baffles me.
Just a symptom of the longer it takes to name someone. Other schools (men & women) are hiring very fast and already active in the portal. I don't care how long it takes if a great hire is made. My history of Vol coach searches has led me to think that the longer it goes, the more underwhelming the result. Hope to be wrong.

Care to provide a source? Otherwise, I don’t see where this occurred. If you’re referring to the article cited below, that’s not accusing anyone of being racist.

Also all I’m gonna say is if we get a sub par coach… ITS ALL YALL LOUD MOUTHS FAULT.

Kellie is highly respected in the coaching world and many coaches appreciate what she did here. She was successful. She was growing and expanding with USA and international experience. That def rubbed many candidates the wrong way. No one wants crazy expectations like a Natty in 3 years. And a league win in 5 with Dawn and Mulkey in the SEC.

We will get what we deserve sadly. I’m holding hope but faith is waivering. No guarantee it’s a small name but…

Crazy the interest was from mid levels with big eyes seeing a pay increase from 200k to 1 milly… ofc they don’t care to come here make a bag and fail.

All this to say… DW hurry the f up
You really need to get a grip.

You're working yourself into a tizzy based on 1) unwarranted resentment over Danny's decision to part ways with Kellie and 2) a bunch of assumptions you're making based on unreliable information pieced together from unreliable sources. And more importantly, you seem to be projecting your intense negativity onto the rest of us. The idea that our athletic director—whose leadership has the university's sports programs in a better place collectively than they've been in for a loooooong time—might actually make a good hire doesn't even seem to register for you, no doubt because you've already decided you'll never forgive him for a perceived slight against someone you like.

Nobody here disrespects Kellie. As I shared in another thread, she was basically my introduction to Tennessee sports when I was 9 years old. She's a great person, she's given everything to the university, and she will always be a legend. It doesn't change the fact that women's basketball is more popular than ever, and our legendary program finds itself sitting on the periphery. I highly doubt Danny White scans Twitter to make decisions about who's coaching his teams. He, like many others, just didn't see Kellie taking the Lady Vols back to the Final Four after five years of decent (but dwindling) results.

A lot of fans see a program that can and should do more. Don't get mad at other people because you were willing to settle for less.

Delusional

This is his second major hire. Folks that don't have concern seem to forget that the other three most successful coaches, Barnes, Vitello and Weakley were already here. He did not hire them.
I would revise to say "here." It's important to add the context that White is considered one of the Top 5 ADs in the country and has made huge hires in his career.

Buffalo:
- Bobby Hurley (brother of UConn's Dan Hurley) went 42-20 and took them to their first NCAA appearances before getting hired away at Arizona State.
- Nate Oats (Current Alabama MBB) hired to replace Hurley.
- Lance Leipold hired to take over football program. Now one of the hottest young coaches in the country and has resurrected an abysmal Kansas program to relevancy.

UCF:
- Scott Frost took the 0-12 Knights to 13-0 in two years (unofficial national champs for that). Became the hottest coaching prospect in the country before going to Nebraska.
- Johnny Dawkins. Least successful of his hires, but still the MBB coach at UCF.
- Josh Heupel. Nuff said. Went 28-8 at UCF.

Tennessee:
- Josh Heupel.

This doesn't cover other sports he hired at these stops, just the football and MBB hires. I'd have ti dig more for the others. But it's an impressive track record. He's also known for a very deliberate procedure.

Ironic that a poster with the handle VolFuture is so stuck in the past.

Literally, get your facts straight before spouting absolute and utter crap on the board. Kara was still a trustee in good standing when she commented on the lack of diversity in UT's coaching staff relative to other SEC schools. She made this statement in June 2020.

From a News-Sentinel story in August 2020, when their had been some concerns about a conflict of interest once she took the Duke job:

Board Chairman John Compton said the provisions of the UT Focus Act allow for Lawson to remain on the board.

“Kara can continue as trustee, and after a conversation she and I have had, I am pleased to inform you she will be doing so,” Compton said during the meeting. “So, Kara, congratulations to you, and we look forward to your ongoing contributions to our Board.”
