Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Yes, last time it was pretty much common knowledge within a day that it was going to be Harper. There were rumors they had already met and it was basically a done deal.

Fulmer and the associates that advised him did an embarrassingly lame job. Amateur hour. Didn't conduct a national search. Lazy and lame. "Look there's one of our former players at Missouri State and she just took them to the Sweet 16." Fulmer: "Good enough for me!" Harper is certainly a decent if not better coach--but this is a big program and there are a LOT of good coaches out there. You have failed as an AD if you don't cast a wide net and scrutinize a lot of candidates.

🚨 🚨

The PR analyst in me says if our Vol insiders are legit, the AD could be tossing out Kara as an option to make it look like a slam dunk when he hires Walz. This would make sense given many here (probably representative of the TN AD circle) don’t seem to like him. Even so, he matches everything Danny White loves. He’s a proven winner and top 10 current coach. That’s like being a moth drawn to a flame. It would be a major win for DW to take him from UL so he’s likely willing to go against some at TN not wanting him.

They’re either priming us for Walz, or playing us for stupid. It’s not Kara.

Bookmark it.
This is making more sense to me.

It may not be Walz, but this post came to mind after learning Kara wasn’t even in contention.

Funny thing about these "insiders", some are saying opposite things so somebody isn't an insider. Probably no one is an actual insider.

But we gotta speculate! What else can we do?

Been saying this for a while. There used to be a few people around with credible information. Since a lot of the changes in the past 3 years there is almost no intel anymore.

So much so that those who think they are in the know are now just speculating and spreading rumors like everyone else. They’ve come up with egg on their face a few times recently.

At this point I’m just waiting, praying, standing on one leg and crossing my fingers.

Also all I’m gonna say is if we get a sub par coach… ITS ALL YALL LOUD MOUTHS FAULT.

Kellie is highly respected in the coaching world and many coaches appreciate what she did here. She was successful. She was growing and expanding with USA and international experience. That def rubbed many candidates the wrong way. No one wants crazy expectations like a Natty in 3 years. And a league win in 5 with Dawn and Mulkey in the SEC.

We will get what we deserve sadly. I’m holding hope but faith is waivering. No guarantee it’s a small name but…

Crazy the interest was from mid levels with big eyes seeing a pay increase from 200k to 1 milly… ofc they don’t care to come here make a bag and fail.

All this to say… DW hurry the f up
12-37 disagrees on who’s fault it is

Not my fight here, but I can't see how Danny White could possible afford to care nothing about how the fanbase feels about the hire since it's the fans who buy tickets to events and who donate to the athletic department. The AD really needs to come up big here, IMO, to get the fans and the donors excited enough about the immediate future to make quick gains in both attendance and donations.

I mean, I think I may understand what you're really trying to say but I don't think suggesting DW doesn't need the fans' approval at all is probably off.

Granted, the AD needs to do most what HE thinks is best since he's the one in charge. He should, and likely will, ruffle a few fan feathers here and there for as long as he has this job. It's one of those "you can't please everybody" kinda jobs. But I'd bet the farm he knows he needs to try his darnest to make a hire that makes a lot more people super happy and proud than he makes feel super underwhelmed.
"The success you have in Year 1 matters in a coaching trajectory," White said. "If I hire someone who is a terrible fit for that group of team leaders, that's who you're winning or losing with in Year 1. People talk about winning the press conference. I talk about winning Year 1 more than winning the press conference."
- Danny White

Per The Athletic: "He cares a lot less about how the hire is publicly received than about how quickly the hire can win."

I embellished to say he doesn't care at all. But it's not that much of a stretch, especially with this hire. Not a single candidate will make everyone happy. But right now, worrying about selling tickets is not wise.

Winning sells tickets. It's more important to have sold out crowds in February and March than it is in November and December. I'm sure the MAJOR donors trust White enough at this point to give the new coach enough financial backing for NIL and such early on for recruiting this offseason. The rest comes with winning.

To add to yours maybe in her heart she thinks she has a better job

I would argue she does. At least 1/2 the people in this thread, probably more don’t want another VFL hire. So in that regard, stay put. Couple that with the last two, both of whom she knows…stay put.

Top it all off with “you don’t want her, with maybe she doesn’t want it because she can’t fill the shoes…” and you end up eating your own and we do that as well as anyone.

Something to do with the Board at Tennessee being all white and her needing to resign from the board when she became Dukes coach plus was not picked to coach when Kellie was hired. This is about what has been reported on why she is not a candidate.
John Adams and Cora Hall
Said she hadn't done more than Kellie Sweet Sixteen
Cora Said Kara had promise but if you going that route could waited to fired Kellie.Kellie.Said Alex Simmons Memphis coach could be a good coach down the road if Tennessee job comes open later.

John Adams said with good part of Lady Vols fans didn't want Kellie fired
That they would want a name coach with a wining track record

Chancellor president those two would a name coach.
While Danny White would be ok with someone who wasn't a name coach.

I'm sure someone posted it in 98 pages but I haven't seen it. What is the fanbase's opinion of Reeves from the Lynx?

I think she’s an excellent coach, but it’s always really dicy hiring out of the W because of the lack of recruiting knowledge, connections and experience.

A lot of her success at Minnesota is attributed to GM Roger Griffith who helped put together one of the best rosters of all time. If you couldn’t win with that group of players there was definitely something wrong with you.

She operated as GM for a few seasons after he left and then turned it over in 2018. They have no been as good since.

Let me be clear, I do not view Kara’s status as a former player as a negative vis a vis candidacy for this job.

I’m just not sold she’s a better coach than the one we just fired.

Duke’s offense can be flat out painful at times. They’ve had 11 games in 3 years where they’ve failed to reach 50 points.

As an AD you hire for the school you're at... Hes not responsible for other schools.

So the Scott Frost hire at UCF was a rousing success. DW isn't graded based on what frost did at Nebraska, that's on Frost and the AD there.

As for DW TN hires... Sure the book is still open on Heup but off to a good start averaging 9wins a season in his 3 years and recruiting elite QBs, much better trajectory and momentum than prior hires.

DW also hired Duane Ross track and field coach, ranked 5th in country (2nd in SEC)....

I dunno. If DW doesn’t care, he wouldn’t have let KJH go.

I hope White makes a great hire--but this notion that he's some AD savant is comical.

Frost was a complete bust at Nebraska.

Leipold? This guy? He's 59 and this is his record at Kansas.

2021Kansas2–101–810th
2022Kansas6–73–6T–7thL Liberty
2023Kansas9–45–4T–7thW Guaranteed Rate2323
Kansas:17–219–18

I like Heuepel but he hasn't accomplished anything significant yet. Yes, we had the one big year--then fell back last year. He's got to show that he can keep us at the top of a conference that is bigger and tougher than ever. The only other hire he's made at UT doesn't look good after two years...
I have never seen someone be so wrong on so many subjects. It's truly impressive
