● I thought the injury problems over the past few years should have given Harper the room for one more year. And, I thought she was doing a good job of rebuilding the program, albeit slower than some (probably including me) would have liked.
● The level of animosity toward her from some persons on this board is, uhm, surprising.

The PR analyst in me says if our Vol insiders are legit, the AD could be tossing out Kara as an option to make it look like a slam dunk when he hires Walz. This would make sense given many here (probably representative of the TN AD circle) don’t seem to like him. Even so, he matches everything Danny White loves. He’s a proven winner and top 10 current coach. That’s like being a moth drawn to a flame. It would be a major win for DW to take him from UL so he’s likely willing to go against some at TN not wanting him.

They’re either priming us for Walz, or playing us for stupid. It’s not Kara.

I don’t hate you. I certainly don’t think anyone else does either. Your opinions are a little suspect imo though.

Kellie is a good coach not an elite one. I think in DW’s mind she proved that. Maybe she would’ve been successful with nil money, maybe she wouldn’t have as well. Kind of irrelevant at this point though. She didn’t live up to DW’s expectations and whether you like that or not you can’t say she wasn’t given time here to show what she could do as a coach. I don’t believe DW ever wanted anything but for her to be successful though and I do believe in the time she was here he did his best to give her the resources he could to be successful.

Why would he? He quite literally said when he fired Kellie "To protect the integrity of this process, you will not hear from me until we are ready to announce our new head coach." So now everyone is jumping from the 5th street bridge.. because they haven't heard from him. Make it make sense!

He fully vetted and interviewed many people about Oats. As well as interviewed other candidates. Not only was Oats highly respected as an assistant and recruiter, the team at Buffalo had primarily been recruited by him and wanted to play for him. They were leaving if he left. They didn't follow Hurley to ASU.

That probably wasn't super popular for a lot of Buffalo fans because it might've looked like an easy cop-out. It worked.

Sounds like a similar situation to the UT soccer coach…..

I would be willing to bet that Danny White reached out to Lawson, to obtain an interview.
I’d also be willing to bet that Lawson knows the expectations and how the last 2 “Pats girls” couldn’t cut it. It’s entirely possible that Lawson declined an interview, simply because she knows that she nor 99.9% of coaches can ever fill the shoes of the GOAT. Maybe she just wouldn’t feel comfortable coaching at and trying to reach the expectations that she herself holds this program to.

Not my fight here, but I can't see how Danny White could possible afford to care nothing about how the fanbase feels about the hire since it's the fans who buy tickets to events and who donate to the athletic department. The AD really needs to come up big here, IMO, to get the fans and the donors excited enough about the immediate future to make quick gains in both attendance and donations.

I mean, I think I may understand what you're really trying to say but I don't think suggesting DW doesn't need the fans' approval at all is probably off.

Granted, the AD needs to do most what HE thinks is best since he's the one in charge. He should, and likely will, ruffle a few fan feathers here and there for as long as he has this job. It's one of those "you can't please everybody" kinda jobs. But I'd bet the farm he knows he needs to try his darnest to make a hire that makes a lot more people super happy and proud than he makes feel super underwhelmed.

Well now that is one perception that I do not subscribe to .Danny White is a professional at his job and should not be influenced at all about what fans think in hiring someone /anyone to right this program that has been run in the ditch and buried . He and his whole family know basketball better than any LV/Vol fan and will make the best choice that he can based on the criteria he has established not how fans feel .

The one thing I know ,the talent cupboard is bare with the departure of Key and Jackson.....Spear is the only real talent left and next year expectations should be formed with that in mind......that would have been the case also with Coach Harper in charge. The only real hope for a reasonably good season next year is to hire someone by Monday and 5 - 6 of the top players in the Portal are convinced to come to Tennessee and that includes posts,Forwards and guards ...they need a complete overhaul.
