Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

But yet one of our resident insiders proclaimed yesterday "don't be shocked to see Kara Lawson... because many are pulling for her in the AD" and yet here we are 24 hours later hearing she didn't interview and had no interest. It goes to show you what we all know - NO ONE here knows what is going on. Trust the process. Trust DW.
Wouldn’t surprise me is some made some calls on her behalf, also wouldn’t surprise me if that worked against her as well.

Technically, I think they said a former Lady Vol, and didn’t actually say Kara’s name. But I don’t know what other former Lady Vol would be a realistic candidate. Alex Simmons?

Some observations:
● I thought the injury problems over the past few years should have given Harper the room for one more year. And, I thought she was doing a good job of rebuilding the program, albeit slower than some (probably including me) would have liked.
● The level of animosity toward her from some persons on this board is, uhm, surprising.
● I’m not sure any coach, anywhere, could ever live up to the expectations of some of those same people.
● And as the coaching search continues, remember the adage: “Them that knows, don’t talk; and them that talks, don’t know.”
No one who knows basketball was even remotely surprised she was let go. This is why the narrative about other coaches being scared to come here because our standards are too high is just silly.

And she was always handled with kid-gloves compared to how someone less likable and cherished would have been treated.

I agree with your last point though. Over 110 pages and a few thousand posts based on not a single verified leak.

Everyone should remember that much of this thread is just a bunch of people with vivid imaginations making things up. Most of the rest are people trying to push an agenda.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I’m both afraid and curious to see what NIL does to college athletics that spoils it for everyone, including the players. You know some will unionize, as they should have the right to, and strike, bargain contracts, etc.
NIL isn’t paid by the University nor are the student-athletes employees of the University. NIL is basically endorsements offered by Collectives in exchange for autographs, appearances, etc. or endorsements offered by local businesses (like Wiegels, etc) or endorsements offered by larger businesses. They can also earn money from special t-shirts, etc.

Unionizing doesn’t fit this…striking doesn’t fit this, bargaining contracts doesn’t fit this…

To my point.. what makes this a bad job?

Already top 3 in a P5, and admin willing to pay, NIL that is getting better, on par or slightly above facilities, top 10 fan attendance, good recruiting geography…

Makes u wonder what the negative could be… I have answers y’all don’t wanna hear

IMHO it still is a good job just less panache than it used to have cannot any longer point to banners in rafters and ask recruits wanna be a part of that? enough time has passed

there are things to build on so it is not a "new build" but people who see this job as the preeminant spot in the country are missing the fact that several programs and the HCs at those
programs have passed us by while we were invested in "family" hires

And it doesn’t matter. Everyone here will jump on the train. Ain’t nobody gonna stop Vol-ing. Admit it. It doesn’t matter. Whomever he chooses, we’re Gonna Ride with, we all know it.

Sure, ya might feel like bailing, but yer gonna accidentally turn that tv on for the first game…you’ll be hooked all over again. Admit It.
Yep. First one’s free.

That’s how they get you coming back.

But a lot of these post assume that Kara would (or should) automatically prefer to be at UT vs. Duke. She is at a rich, prestige University building solid recruiting connections and seems well liked there. Exactly why is a LV rebuild job something she should jump at?

Same goes for Vic at Texas, Wes and NCST, Brenda at Maryland, Dawn at SC (the most laughable option on the table).

Maybe White can throw some extra $ at them but for late career coaches, $ is probably not their top priority.

A lot of the media buzz seems to be setting a stage for a classic "White" hire where he gets an "up and comer" or someone whose resume may seem underwhelming but White sees their latent "potential."

If that happens, I expect the "he has the big fish on the line" crowd will immediately pivot to the brilliance of hiring a lesser known coach.

And honestly, I would rather see him take a shot on an up and comer than fading stars like Walz or Freese.

If he does indeed land a big fish, then the Kellie call becomes moot. If he hires Molly Miller (or someone at that level), I would guess a few "huh? what, why?" questions will be asked among sports journalists.

The immediate problem with an up & comer hire is building a competitive roster for next season if not a transfer magnet....
great post i like la rocque

The NIL you describe is true name, image and likeness the way it was supposed to be. The part that crept in was the player salary part and that probably will eventually be unionized. The Dartmouth men's bball team already voted to unionize and courts have approved it.

Most think the salary/signing bonus/whatever you want to call it part of NIL will go in house with the universities where it can be more tightly controled and fairly administered than the current wild west. There's an argument over whether the players will be designated actual employees or not. If they are, the will most surely unionize.

I don't know who this Em Adler character is, but I know (1) they're able to make some of their money because of Pat's work at Tennessee growing the sport, and (2) they're a dumbass.
