Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

She’s my first choice. Won the first qtr. Tied at the half. Trailed by 4 end of 3rd and tied with 7:21 to go, lost by 7 in the Elite 8 to UConn. Good recruiter, good at the Portal, NBA experience, relatively young, understands social media, best I can figure salary is not an issue…can DW get her? Do they wanna move, she’s got two kids, do they like it out there? There’s no such thing as a no brainer when it comes to this.

GBO!!!
She built her team with a sizable NIL coffer.. She will not leave JuJu and JuJu is not leaving the West coast. She also has a great incoming recruiting class, which includes Kennedy Smith. Another player that wants to stay out West. She is not coming to east Tenn.

Walz has to be the hire. He is the only person that makes sense given the timing of everything. I'll be more than happy to be wrong though.

He'll have to explain what has been going on in Louisville the few years with all his recruits transferring out

I listed several reasons she’s a hard get, no surprise regarding those issues, everyone is speculating, I’m no different.

Walz has issues too. He has a contract and it provides him retirement, not to mention his salary is 2 million dollars per year, he’s been there a long time.
GBO!!!

That's not true. I'm fine with the overall but it should've happened last week.
It couldn't because the amount that would need to be paid to her dropped by 50 percent on April 1st. Before is would've been 1.1 million and on April 1st 550 thousand for four years. So DW saved quite a bit of money by waiting.

Seems like the name being pushed the most is Gottlieb. If it turns out to be her it will be before Friday as they lost to UConn last night 80 to 73 and the USC season is over.

People ask, "Why would she come here?" It's like they've forgotten that when it comes to women's basketball, we are a blue blood program. It's like asking who would want to coach Duke or North Carolina in men's basketball. We have 8 national titles. Played for the NC an additional 5 times. Been to 18 Final Fours. Pat built something special here. She dragged women's basketball into the national spotlight. And whoever gets hired won't be the one following in the footsteps of a legend. They'll be the one given the chance to restore the shine. History is why someone would want to coach here. We have plenty of it.

It's possible the AD has his coach in mind now and all will be revealed soon. It won't be Dawn, Kim, Vic, Wes, Niele, and probably not Rueck, Gottlieb, Close for different reasons. Maybe Mitchell comes out of retirement? He wasn't brought back to KY but if he wants to coach again, this is an opening. Long shot but not out of the question.

Freese is damaged goods at this point and she will finish her career at MD as a mid range B10 program. Coach Yo is a likeable person who has done wonders at OM but wouldn't likely move the program forward. I too feel that Lawson, despite being a strong family member, wouldn't be an upgrade at all.

This hire will likely be an up and coming mid major or a longtime top assistant but less than 24 hours ago I thought Harper was safe and people here were reading too much into the silence on X and an article being published.

History means by definition at least a while ago. I’d be happy to give Molly Miller a shot if the big names, with long, expensive contracts and buyouts don’t work out.

Serious question, how much money would be enough…to uproot your family, move cross country…for a brand that’s lost a bit of luster? We got fans. We have facilities, we have a name and we can write a check. We also have a legacy that some might call baggage. We are about to find out.

I’d ask the current players who they would want to be their new coach.
LOL...................thats alot of the problem now.
Lots of very successful coaches were NOT liked. Including CPS. Do you really believe all her players liked her. But they respected her as she built them into the players they became.
I dont want a Coach they like...........I want the Plasitc Trash Can Drills brought back!!

My serious prediction:

Who is still coaching in the tournament with Tennessee ties. strong recruiting credentials, championship pedigree, and for whom this job would be a huge step-up and would keep on the key current players and recruits in place

Jolette Law. The next LV head coach.

It is actually the only move that makes sense under the current circumstances.
I could get behind a Harlem Globetrotter roaming the sidelines of TBA!😎

IMO, GCU is a sleeping giant in the college athletics world.

Is 3:30 a.m. and my brain is fried after reading all these posts but I will throw a name out there that will make everybody's head spin. Former head basketball coach of Vanderbilt men's team Jerry Stackhouse.
You are correct. your brain is fried... JK... I still like Wes Moore or Becky Hammon..

GO LADY VOLS!!!!

This program is on rocky ground and uncharted waters at this time and much like the Rick Barnes hire(or so a lot of us thought) you better get a veteran coach to keep this program stabilized and forget taking a chance on an up and comer. I don’t think this program has the luxury of taking a chance right now, because if we “miss” again, it could be a long climb back to the top. The distance from the top to the bottom in the women’s game is drastically different in the women’s game.
Of course this is my opinion and it really doesn’t mean much.😁

Plus the extra 1.1 seconds... er.. a... I mean extra $1.1M would be nice to help lure in a top quality coach. I'd rather it go to the new coaching staff instead of wasting it on the outgoing staff.

GO LADY VOLS!!!!
