Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

We won't. DW is not like Mike Hamilton, Dave Hart, John Currie, Phil Fulmer. He is the best athletics director we have had in the past 40 years.

Look at the budget, the facility upgrades and plans, the new hotel and entertainment district coming, and more importantly, look at the fact that football is Top 15 in the country, Men's Basketball is Top 8 in the country, Baseball and softball are doing fantastic as always.

Danny White has Tennessee Athletics in a better place as a whole than it has ever been. The fact he fired Kellie just tells you he knows this program can be even better. He will make the right hire. This is a marquee program. He will treat it as such.

Dave Hart hired both Barnes (basketball) and Pensky (soccer). I believe Currie hired both Vitello (baseball) and Chris Woodruff (tennis)--two of our best programs. Hamilton hired Matt Kredich, I believe--one of the best swimming coaches in the country. So this notion that White is some guru compared to our previous ADs is nonsense. White botched the soccer hire when Pensky took the FSU job. Most ADs make some good hires and some bad ones. It rather comes with the territory. I think Fulmer was 0 for 2.

I agree the right choice better be made very quickly. As bad as KJH has recruited we have to hit the portal. We also got to re recruit the players that can return. With that in mind if the program is a scorched earth scenario a lot of big name coaches may not find the UT job as favorable as many think it is. Has anybody watched what Coach YO went thru at Ole Miss? She has done a wonderful job but that does not need to happen here.

On to Gottlieb, did anybody watch that mess she put on the floor? If she is the great hope then we need to understand she is a work in progress. Watching everything unfold it seems that many people are smitten with Walz and the guy just does not seem like he knows how to work the NIL. He may be a fine coach but he has resources at Louisville and he does not seem like he can sign and keep the big fishes in recruiting or on his roster. He won before the era of the NIL and I really do not see that he is relevant in this new era. Lawson probably does not get a sniff because she is a VFL and people want new blood coaching the team. Wes Moore age is a problem with me but he is very good coach. I like Payne from Colorado, she has TN ties and will also have a learning curve but she has the it factor. She would be a good hire but not a homerun and a lot of part time LV fans want a male coach and would gripe groan and complain about her resume.

Harper is leaving a team of complimentary pieces. No stars. It will be in their best interest to return otherwise hopefully the door doesn't hit them too hard in the back. We will get a good coach. Get the right coach and you can field an NCAA tourney team with a roster of transfers the 1st year then kill it in high school recruiting.

Key, Cooper, Spear?

We will cover it as best we can. White is not going to give any hints I'm sure and I admittedly don't have the sources across the national landscape of the women's game that I have in football and basketball.

I would imagine, White swings pretty big for a proven coach.

I think you start with a proven coach. Someone who has a resume of success. You are making a huge investment into the the program by making this move, I don't think your choice is to hire someone who doesn't have a real track record.

fact that he's making a move feels like he's not settling for mediocracy

From your Volnation statistics, I see that you don't speak often, but I must say, when you do... it was good. ☝️

I will always love Currie for giving us Tony Vitello, lol. Danny is certainly benefiting from a Rocky Top revival, and while I agree, he was not responsible for hiring, or keeping, coaches of some of our most successful programs (Rick Barnes - UCLA offer in 2019 as an additional example) - he is certainly overseeing them in a manner consistent with a successful AD. The money being poured into that campus, from baseball, softball, football, etc. is certainly helping to sustain the current success.

If we take too long there will be no portal players left. that’s his point. ur simply missing it. A choice needs to be made soon in order to even have a team to put out there to compete. Trust me we are going to have some players transfer out after firing kellie.
Step 1: hire coach quickly
Step 2: secure current roster
Step 3: set up off season workouts and current roster eval
Step 4: secure portal player that fit your new style/system if any are left
Step 5: watch the future and get on the recruiting trail*

*First Eval period is April 18th

I'm giving you a like for this.

Anyone who says we have plenty of time to make a hire is not aware of our roster needs. If it does take awhile the new coach better have lots of players to come with them. We already missed an important portal visit today.
He wouldn’t have made this move if he didn’t already have a very short list in mind of who he wants to target, and if he weren’t highly confident he could land someone on it. He may already have his first choice lined up for all we know.

Ya, freaking out over possibly missing out on the best options in year one is really putting the cart before the horse. Plus, the tournament isn't even over. There will be tons of portal entries in the near future. It's not like DW will drag this to the summer or anything. The new coach should have plenty of time to hopefully rebuild the relationship with Finley.
Years even to rebuild the relationship.

The hire is a done deal. It's all about timing. It WILL be a big name!
Now I don't know if I believe this or not.

But I will say this, with DW waiting til today to announce the decision coinciding with the drop in buyout. A week after our LV season ended. Leads me to believe he knew he was making this decision.

The ole cliche you don't let someone go unless you have something better lined up, could be in play.

I personally thought Kelly was gonna have one more year, but eventually would have led to this, my point is you know what you have in Kelly she will be top half of SEC and be in tournament year in and out. Although not the standard could be worse.

Therefore considering he made a move, excites me to see he knows this LV program has higher standards, leading me to believe he may already had a plan in place.

Will it happen as quick as the previous poster alludes, idk... But I do believe it will be within a week.

Fulmer hired Rackham Watt for volleyball.

im not saying she’s my first choice for a hire, but she’s proven she can recruit. recruiting is a huge part of the game, 3 years at USC, and she’s in the elite 8. she might not be amongst the elite, but she’s pretty good.

She’s my first choice. Won the first qtr. Tied at the half. Trailed by 4 end of 3rd and tied with 7:21 to go, lost by 7 in the Elite 8 to UConn. Good recruiter, good at the Portal, NBA experience, relatively young, understands social media, best I can figure salary is not an issue…can DW get her? Do they wanna move, she’s got two kids, do they like it out there? There’s no such thing as a no brainer when it comes to this.

GBO!!!

Is 3:30 a.m. and my brain is fried after reading all these posts but I will throw a name out there that will make everybody's head spin. Former head basketball coach of Vanderbilt men's team Jerry Stackhouse.
