Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

I want everyone to name a coach that we can realistically get, that you know 100 percent can get us back to prominence.

You going to slap them on the wrist when they don’t write the checks.. like how are we going to force them? If they wouldn’t fund Kellie (one of our own) why are they going to fund someone they’ve never heard of prior to the press release?
It may not be about Kellie but just the timing of it, but that’s if that was the case to begin with, which I’m not sure.

Choose to believe what you want. It’ll be pretty obvious that we’ve been told no several times once it’s not an elite coach. But since we’re “swinging for the fences”, I’m sure it will be Walz, Staley, Ivy, Freese, Gottlieb, Smesko, Close, Mulkey, or Shafer.
Where is your evidence we’ve been told no several times?

Perhaps the delay is because this is an unprecedented mega $ deal to sign Tomekia Reed, Kim Caldwell and Molly Miller as co-coaches. Lots of terms to work through. Why hire one rising star when you can hire 3!
Yes! For crap’s sake. Do you know the intricacies of preparing a contract?

I can name two other mid major coaches that I’d bet significant money would get us to a better record and deeper tournament run than Marshall’s coach next year.

1. Carla Berube
2. Lisa Fortier

i’m sorry, but hiring a coach that has spent one year in D1 basketball would just be laughable. stevens is a good coach, but she needs WAY more experience in D1 ball before she can coach at a program like tennessee. why fire kellie who has proven she can atleast compete with the bigger schools, for a coach who has shown absolutely nothing in D1 basketball. it was time for kellie to go, but DW can do better.
Caldwell didn’t even sign a recruit for 2024 at Marshall, yet they think she’s going to be able to compete against the big dogs in the SEC? That NIL bag better be big🤣

I’ve stated this already. I don’t you need to believe me or your approval. Just stating what I’ve heard from people I trust.

But for the record, you seem to still think we get a “good” and proven coach.. so for that reason I have kept you on the good list bc I so pray and hope you’re right.

No I actually don’t think we get a “proven” coach if we’re using the same standards to fire KJH. I hope I’m wrong. And I hope that I’m wrong in saying we won’t make the NCAA tournament because of it as well.

He hasn’t stated any evidence at all, other than a new coach hasn’t been announced. He’s full of it.

You haven’t stated evidence because you have no evidence that we’ve been told no several times. There are those lies again.

I’m not going to tell you who has told me. And if I did, it’s not evidence. Im not Sherlock Holmes. By the way, they don’t know who it’s going to be, including Marshall’s coach. So it’s not that huge of a claim I’m relaying.

I don't understand why people are acting like winning a division 2 championship isn't an accomplishment. She was a coaching a division 2 school with division 2 school players against other division 2 schools and players. It's not like she was coaching a power 5 school and moved down and had an unfair advantage.
I don’t either. I’m not advocating for anyone but dismissing people based on this is irrational. Danny Hurley went from a high school coach to UConn in 8 years. That’s worked out ok.

If someone can coach they’ll get it done. If they can’t it doesn’t matter how long they’ve been a high level D1 coach.

You said you stated evidence several times that UT has been told no several times . You have hearsay, as you rightly acknowledge. It’s nothing but speculation. I don’t want to know who has told you this. It’s some person who is gullible that believes junk they are told. You have no proof we’ve been rejected several times yet you’ve acknowledged it here, often, lamenting that UT wouldn’t get a proven coach now. Also, lots of people hear lots of things about a lot of things and people, they don’t all run to message boards to spread it. I’ve always told my kids that if you don’t know that something is true, don’t repeat, and even if it is true, you should be careful about it. I guess I value truth too much but that’s just me. Anyone can come on here claiming they heard anything.

Do we not have history and tradition that she can sell?
Our Lady Vol basketball history and tradition are very much a proud part of my life.
But then it hit me... the girls who would be recruited by the next coach would be the age of my grandchildren (if I had any).

So, I thought, 'what proud and treasured traditions of my grandparents were successfully passed on to me?'

Well, Papaw's stories about listening to baseball games on the radio, and him following the Brooklyn Robins or the Boston Braves never really captured my imagination or my loyalty to those team (which didn't exist as such anymore).

He also talked about the manager of the St. Louis Browns, but that confused me because I thought the Browns were football.

I liked airplanes, and he once saw Charles Lindberg land his plane at a local airport. But I was more into the new supersonic jets the Air Force was flying. I kinda figured Charles Lindberg must've been the John Glenn astronaut of his day.

Well, I'm sure you get my drift. That LV history and tradition are ours to cherish. But today's and tomorrow's young lady athletes will need to encounter a new one. And I'm pretty sure DW understands that. De-linking the program from those who played for Pat will relieve the next coach from the burden of living up to a legend. Alabama football went through the same process following Bear Bryant's retirement and passing.

Based on what?

Ummm... proven records?

Carla Berube has a 100-17 record at Princeton over the last 4 years for an 86% win percentage. She's 44-2 in league play for a 96% win percentage. Add in her D3 experience (since that matters to a lot on this board) and she's 484-113 as a coach (81%).

Lisa Fortier is 265–63 (.808) as a head coach and 154–22 (.875) in league play. She's beaten more top 5 teams in her career than Kellie did at TN.

You're going to tell me you take Marshall's coach over either of those?
