My serious prediction:

Who is still coaching in the tournament with Tennessee ties. strong recruiting credentials, championship pedigree, and for whom this job would be a huge step-up and would keep on the key current players and recruits in place

Jolette Law. The next LV head coach.

It is actually the only move that makes sense under the current circumstances.

If he asked a bunch of college kids who will be here 1-3 more years the names of coaches they want, then I’d be surprised and disappointed.
1. you don’t make long term decisions based on short term factors
2. College kids aren’t that smart yet, usually.
3. It’s a no win- if they name names and you don’t interview or hire their suggested coach, it could create resentment, lead to transfers if they don’t get their way. If he does hire the coach 1 or more players suggested, it looks like he caters to certain players, and again, could lead to tension.
4 He is the AD, and he has a staff and resources to vet candidates and make the right call. It’s his job and he’s accountable.

An athletic director of his caliber at a place like this asking players who they want to be their coach is just not a good decision and I am highly skeptical that White did this. He may have asked about the kind of coach they want to play for, which is different.
U have no idea how this works. I’ve been thru it. The AD always asks for player input. Your long winded paragraph isn’t worth reading

I would have taken the ex vtech coach that went to Ky!
I’m guessing they weren’t interested, or they would have reached out through backchannels and he would have waited to take a job. They knew they were doing this today, so if they wanted him, I don’t think he’d have taken that job and would have known this was going to be open.

Not worth reading but worth responding to? Haha.

Player input isn’t the same as names of coaches. Perhaps if you read what I wrote you’d know the difference. I mentioned player imput would be sought.
You’d be surprised how much I know about it. Danny White didn’t go on that locker room and ask for names of coaches players wanted.

Becky Hammon
Jeff Walz

Should be the first two calls. Becky will likely say no, but shes only making 1 million a year in the WNBA.
Walz should be interested, i think he was interested the first two times the job opened. Maybe i read that somewhere idk. Both would be really good hires.

Offer Dawn Staley to be the highest paid coach in Women's Basketball and go from there.

Be like LSU and swing for the fences!
Well in one thought this sounds good, but she basically lost to Kellie with a lot better players in SECT in South Carolina. Then on the other hand once she's hired the players of a team that coach leaves can hit the portal. So, she would probably bring the players with her like the VT coach when he left 3 VT players hit the portal. Fans root for a university, players play for coaches.

Of course he will ask players some input of what type of coach they feel would be best. It will make them more accepting of the change if they feel like they have some input. Otherwise several might depart. Which they might anyway.

Hammon yes, Walz no. If I were her, I would take it for the travel accommodations alone. They have to fly coach in the W.

Only one or two names on that list would even come close to home run.
