Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

Not sure what you mean by "pound the pavement", and Kim looks like she may have experience in that, but coaches and schools can't be directly involved in NIL fundraising. As far as other publicity stuff, the LVs staff does just as much. Crowd relations was never the problem. Recruiting, winning big games, and donor confidence was.

*directly*

Heupel and DW mention NIL all the time. They do everything they can within the rules to elevate NIL fundraising. We better have a treasure trove of committed LV NIL or we will not be getting a coach in the tier that we want. DW best be "getting our money up".

Really believe DW's got it up or he would never have started the whole thing. Have to believe that.

You can "pound the pavement" and not be "directly" involved.

The bar was set way too high for Kellie and Hollie to overcome. For Hollie it was too close to Pat's time and for Kellie she was expected to do better than Hollie (you could argue "yes" and "no" about whether she did) and that still seemed too close to Pat because she played for Pat and won national championships for Pat. I would hope that the next coach would be given a chance to make the program his or hers and not a Pat Summitt program. That's never going to happen. Pat was one of a kind and to put someone under that microscope is unfair. Tennessee has the fan base and the recourses now they just need to find the right person. I am sad that Kellie didn't work out. You could never question her love of the program, but I always wondered if she had her own vision or if she was trying to be version of Pat. That was never going to happen. Good luck in your search. Tennessee will be back no doubt about it.
Holly started off well enough. Once she was responsible for the roster it went awry. 7 years isn't enough time? KJH was given 5 years and didn't show any marked improvement. Again, plenty of time.

One of the few rules remaining for NIL is schools can't be involved in the funding. Neither the coach or AD can be involved. There are outside collectives who do the fundraising and distributing. At UT, the men's and women's is seperate and the women's is sort of amateurishly run and not very effective with the big stuff. Of course the AD stays aware of what the collective has to offer bc the new coach will want to know. I posted an article in the Kenny Brooks thread where he explains how that worled to get him to KY.

LOL finally the truth! Jon was a whipping boy. Two groups objected and it's funny bc they're so opposite. A group of woman object bc they think if the hubby is present, he's definitely overshadowing and mansplaining to the wife. The other is mostly men who can't stomach Mommy being the boss and Daddy being the underling. Both use nepotism, which certainly has built in drawbacks, to justify. I always thought if the obvious nepotism is ok with the institution, it's ok w me. This was a non issue blown up wildly.

Also, we're swimming against the modern tide on this. Lots of family combos, hubby/wife, father/child etc across college bb coaching.
If that’s the case, how can anyone promise a new Coach will have the money needed to buy recruits?

They can be and are fully aware of what the collective has. They just can't be directly involved in raising or spending the money. They do have an NIL 'coordinator' who tells the student athletes about opportunities, etc and helps them w taxes, etc. So the line is super flimsey, of course. I'm going to go ahead and post the Kenny Brooks article here that I posted in another thread:

I think the 30 day portal extension is just for players of the team that lost their coach to enter the portal. Don’t think the school gains any advantage from it. I also think it is the 30 days immediately following the dismissal. Anyone know any different?

Also, Holly and Kellie both knew what the bar height is. Better than anyone who posts on here, or anywhere else.

From the article:

The Kentucky women’s basketball program is fully committed to NIL (even hiring a full-time NIL coordinator last offseason),…

That doesn’t sound like the school is not involved.

I hate it for Kellie a true LVFL!

After having to fire Holly and Kellie I hope that puts an end to hiring former. Not gonna end well sooner or later.

Unfortunately the only thing I will remember about Kellie’s time here is not guarding the inbounds passer and not having anyone close to the shooter against S Carolina.

If she pulled that game off would she still be here?

As I said above, the line is very, very flimsey. But everyone, including the LVs, hired an NIL coordinator to help these very young, newly rich kids navigate taxable income, what's a good opportunity, etc. It's a fig leaf for sure, but the schools just can't raise or distribute the funds.

I've not read anything about whether Kentucky had an interest in rehiring Mtichell or not. There was an On3 report
after Elzy got sacked that Mitchell "was expected to be" Kentucky's next coach--but it had no sourcing. That would certainly have made sense after his previous success in Lexington--if, in fact, he wants to get back into coaching. But it didn't happen. Can't say why. They opted to hire Brooks--who did a good job of building the Virginia Tech program in his 8/9 years there. He took the Hokies to the Final Four last year--but I would have bet that that was going to be the high-water mark for him at that program. And maybe Kentucky, too. He's 55/56 years old. The fact that Mitchell has been out of coaching for three years may have worked against him somewhat, but hard to know.

Mitchell, 53, never took Kentucky to a Final Four. He did take the Wildcats to the Elite Eight twice--in back-to-back-years: 2011/12 and 2012/13. In the subsequent 7 seasons there were 2 Sweet 16 appearances, and 3 times beaten in the 2nd round.

One of the dividing issues in P2 world that will need to be worked out (at least among Big Ten schools) is school involvement with NIL. Many schools want to start diverting funds from inside the school (easy to do when its $100M+) to NIL collectives ran in house. No idea where SEC schools are on that issue.

Pretty sure there's an inbetween. I've never set a timeline for anything but recruiting. The recruiting scene is so different now, and so much is possible. If that doesn't start with a bang, we'll know we're in for the long slow climb. Which will require alot of patience.
Or a drop to the middle or bottom of the SEC. Kellie’s keeping us in 3rd place, behind the 2 previous National Championship winners for her first 4 years at TN was under appreciated.

They want to, or at least they see it as inevitable that it's coming inhouse. Probably the only real way to control it. UT, as well as several other SEC schools have already asked their Board of Trustees for permission to set up and begin funding the account. It's funny bc apparently the schools do not want the athletes to become official employees with all the implications of that, but do want to pay a salary from in house. Then collectives can continue to do true name, image, and likeness.
