Kirby Smart to UGA??

Everyone knows Saban is an :shaking2:

If it is more money I would get out of Bama and away from Satan asap!
:)

The money is going to be matched according to Bammer. If he leaves, it is to coach at the school he played for. It will set his career back five years if a HC position is what his ultimate goal is, imo.

This is just like the numerous Carroll and Tubbs threads. Why cant some of you just put threads in the proper place and quit cluttering up the board.

Please explain how a UGA alum going back to UGA impacts UT.

Bama just won a NC, so it won't slow down their momentum.

UGA still sucks.

What are we all missing here that you know?

I don’t know why the Tuberville to TT announcement isn’t over here. It clearly affects UT Football. After all:

* He might have recruiting connections in the South and come after someone that we are recruiting.

*He will need to fill his staff and might come after someone on ours.

* TT fired Leach. Some though he would be a good replacement for Fulmer.

* TT is a rival of Texas. Alabama just beat Texas. Alabama is a rival of ours.

Tuberville to TT is obviously UT Football related.

More of a downward move than lateral. If it is true, he could have stayed at Bama for a couple of more years, and gotten some head coach offers based on the team running Saban's scheme. Now if the defense fails it will make his stock go down.

He is a UGA grad though. This is a coming home for him. He will have complete control of D...this was always the hire that made the most sense. If the D looks good and they still lose due to offense...he will end up the HC there.

I'm hearing that there may be some sort of "Head coach in waiting" type of deal....If I were Richt I wouldn't be having any part of that. The last thing he needs right now is for the fans to be looking to get rid of him in favor of Smart. In any event I think it's a bad move for Smart.... I remember Ray Goff speaking on the perils of coaching at your Alma Mater..... he said if things don't go well you kind of become an outcast at your university..... Judging from the Majors/Fulmer experiences it's kind of hard to disagree with that assessment...

Georgia does not have a lot on D. Bama's 12th best defensive player would be the first or second best player on UGA's D. Smart is going to find that the cupboard is bare. UGA also has big questions at QB and on the line.

Georgia will have a Top 6 recruiting class as always. Thirteen of 19 commits so far are on D, two being 5*. Georgia will always have talent.

Following Alabama’s win over Texas, UA head coach Nick Saban made some general remarks about losing assistant coaches that would suggest he would not be thrilled if Smart were to accept a coordinator's job elsewhere.

“I'm always happy and interested for our coaches to be able to advance professionally,” Saban said Friday, “especially if it's a professional advancement in terms of a guy being a coordinator who can go be a head coach in a situation where he has a chance to be successful.

“I'm not pleased when guys make lateral moves because it's a little bit human nature to think – like my dad used to say, the grass is always greener on top of the septic tank. You always think it's better someplace else. You kind of let your ego get involved and you make moves that you shouldn't make that really aren't in your best interest from a career standpoint. So I'm not happy when guys do that. But anybody on our staff who can move up, we would like to help them do that.”

Lance Thompson to UGA as well? Heard it being mentioned, unprobable but still possible.

Has Kirby Smart EVER called the defensive plays? EVER?

It doesn't appear so. He doesn't concern me at all. Randy Sanders learned under David Cutcliffe...does that mean Sanders = Cutcliffe? No.

This hire is meaningless right now. Wait 2 years and see how he's doing.

Its hard to decipher his ability, after all Saban is recognized as a Defensive Genius.

He's the assistant HC to Bama. Why would he want to leave for a lateral position to GA? Would he just be DC or Assist. HC too?
Is it really that hard to imagine someone making a lateral move when their boss is Nick Saban?

When they have moved/been with him every where he has gone over the past few years, yes.
