Kirby Smart to UGA??

Is it really that hard to imagine someone making a lateral move when their boss is Nick Saban?

Let's see, work for Nick Saban, who has job security but may go to the highest bidder, or join a sinking ship at UGA? I'd take the first option because at least I won't go down with the ship.

Remember when Kirby Smart got selected 1st team All SEC over Deon Grant? That was a funny joke by the sportswriters...

UGA board saying the plane has landed in Athens. Good pickup for the Dawgs. Expect their defense to be solid again before long, imo.

Please explain how a UGA alum going back to UGA impacts UT.

Bama just won a NC, so it won't slow down their momentum.

UGA still sucks.

What are we all missing here that you know?

We're in no better shape than UGA is right now. We both sucked last year.

UGA is still a stagnant program and things won't get much better as long as Richt is there. I also think Smart may be a bit overrated. Make no mistake, that is still Saban's defense at Bama.

Wrong. In case you missed it, we didn't just beat UGA this year, we destroyed them. Richt is a dope and we are and will continue to out-recruit them. This is a big deal because they sit right in the middle of probably the 4th or 5th most talent-rich state in the country and it's not going to matter.

insiders on bol say he wasnt on plane. I dont know myself but the word is Saban told him to name a price. Still might happen, hope it doesnt.

Looks like the UGA board knows about as much as we do sometimes. No word about this around ATL today. If Smart were in Athens we would know.
Why would he leave the NC program that has offered him a blank check? But, then again, stranger things have happened.

As he should. He wants to be a head coach. He will have 10 or more wins on his resume every year at UA. UGA will fight to win 7 for the next few years.

UGA is in panic mode LOL... My fav part is that Saban had the prss conf to announce he was staying put, not Kirby. Love how he NEVER let's his assts talk to the media. Can we say dictator. Still Smart turned down 700k per year. CMR will be gone after next year anyway. Smart probably thinks if he waits a year UGA will be after him for the HC gig

They waited a few weeks for Smart's time to free up, then put on a full court press. Now that he turned them down they are a month behind.

And if they're serious about Grantham, they're going to be waiting a little while longer...

Smart stays at Bama, and a UGA backlash ensues
3:16 pm January 11, 2010, by Mark Bradley

Nobody has snapped up Willie yet. Just sayin'. (AP photo)
That thud you heard at roughly 3 p.m. EST Monday was of Bulldog Nation’s chin plopping into its doggy dish. Kirby Smart isn’t coming. First Bud Foster, then John Chavis and now a born-and-bred Bulldog has turned down Georgia. And here’s where the backlash sets in.

Georgia has been searching for more than a month and is still without a defensive coordinator. It has approached the absolute right guys but has been left with nobody to announce as its new man. And once you’ve offered Kirby Smart the moon and the stars and he has said, “No, thanks,” where is there to turn?

Speculation is rampant within the industry that Georgia’s backup — guess he’s not a backup any more — is Todd Grantham, the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive line coach. But Grantham doesn’t carry one-tenth of the collegiate cachet that Foster, Chavis or Smart does. He’s a pro guy, has been for more than a decade, and he got fired from the only coordinating job he held.

At this point, almost anyone will be seen as a fairly tepid consolation prize. Can’t blame the Bulldogs for aiming high. But when you aim that high, you have to close the deal or you’ll be seen as having failed. And that, sorry to say, is how folks are viewing Georgia today.

This isn’t to say Todd Grantham (or whoever) won’t do a first-rate job. But if Georgia was ever going to dazzle its constituency, the chance was extinguished when Kirby Smart said no.

No, they were sure they had Smart. They're clueless now. Still need a DC and a LB coach and a Dline coach

UGA can thank Buck Belue for a lot of the frenzy. He started telling every dawg fan that could hear his voice on the radio last week, that Smart was coming.
Now Belue is bashing him. What a joke he is.

Agree on Belue... He just picked up and ran off of that twitter post claiming the SMART choice. The radio guys who have 0 inside info and always pretend they do crack me up.

Chuckling at Pollack..... He is insinuating that Smart signed an agreement w/ UGA and then backed out..... Also says he'd be "shocked" if Al Groh ends up at Ga. Tech..... He's gonna be shocked...... He's really gonna be shocked next year in Athens when Kiffin & Co. pull UGA's pants down and spank 'em in their own house even worse than we did @ Neyland this year.....
