Knoxville is not Miami, and Columbus is not Green Bay

It’s going to be a straight up home game. Only a few thousand are allotted for away teams.
Will be interesting to see how many disgruntled buck nut fans decide to sit home and make bank on UT fans coming up.

Probably none. First home playoff game. They will have one almost on a yearly basis due to the conference they play in so they may do that in the future but it won’t happen this year.

Forecasted low on 12/21:
Columbus, OH = 26
Knoxville, TN = 29
Cold weather will NOT be a deciding factor in this game!
Just tell me who the officials are and we will be just fine with the right group. Hopefully not B10 or SEC group.

Earlier the forecast was for 27 degrees on Saturday Night, December 21. Now it says 24. By the time it's Game Day, it may be in the Teens.

You can tell who at ESPN has never been to east Tennessee in the winter time

To be fair, our players don't play in the winter time in TN. Of course neither does Ohio State. Even when they play Minnesota or Wisconsin, it's generally warmer than freezing.

I think a good point was made during the selection show and that is that playing at home may actually work against Ohio State. The fans are frustrated from losing to Michigan and there is alot of pressure on their offense to perform. A three and out to start out and it could cause the fans to start booing.
Exactly. If we come out hot, like vs LSU a couple of years ago, the OSU boo birds will come out loudly.

Looks like Ohio St uses heated seats on their sideline. Seems they can’t take the cold either…

The cold will not be a factor. Precipitation (if there is any) could be for both teams. I like this matchup for our Vols. VAWLS BY FIDDY!

Oh, and I stopped watching "BS" PN about a decade ago. They have very few analysts that know anything about the sport they are covering. Most of them just jabber about the same stuff over and over again.

Obviously that still almost 2 weeks out but at this point, the weather forecast for the 21st shows a high of around 40° and a low in the low 20s so I would think at kick off were probably looking at temps in the 30s, that that’s not any different than a November game in Knoxville. At this point weather doesn’t look to be an issue.

I did watch the VOLS fold like a bunch of wimps against K-State at an unusually cold Cotton Bowl in January 2001. It was clear back then that the team wasn’t ready and the cold affected them.

Hope this team shows up mean and focused. I really don’t want to hear the Ohio State nonsense - and I really don’t want be Ryan Day’s “get well” game.

I think we're kinda missing the point here.

It is not useful to compare weather in Knoxville and Columbus. That only captures half of it. The other half is, where are the teams used to traveling when the weather gets cold?

Here's a map plotted with every home and away game for the two programs in the months of November, December, and January over the past three years. As you'll see, aside from a couple of bowl games (Cotton and Peach), Ohio State's footprint is significantly farther north than ours.

Our center of mass for traveling games is Atlanta. Theirs is Pittsburgh.

They'll be more acclimated to the cold than our lads, mentally if not physically.
