Chandlers?

My last two trips to Chandler's will be my last two trips to Chandler's. Over the last three years they have gone down fast. I will never go back, but I do love eating at Pizza Palace across the street. I always have to remember to bring cash.

Don't forget Philippine Connection in that same area. They have some great food and the lumpias are so good. Hit them up on occasion.

Thx for info. I live out of state but visit Knoxville two or three times a year. Where is Philippine Connection in relation to Pizza Palace?

Nearly across the street. It's a block away towards the fiar. Right next to the entrance to the fair grounds. Little red and orange-ish building. Pretty much carry out only (2 tables maybe). Couple ladies cooking all kinds of good stuff. I should also mention it's cheap.

Some pics on google maps including one showing the lumpias.

I googled it and saw the picture of the building. I know exactly where it is. Thx for the info and tip. I will be in Knoxville in May and will try it for lunch.

So Bread of Heaven is no longer in the parking lot of Big Lots on Hall Rd in Alcoa...seems like they are looking for a new location here but in the meantime do have a location in Antioch TN. Worth hitting up for any Nashville area thread viewers.

Also, not traditional BBQ by any means but Rocky's Jamaican Sunrise in Eagleton is freaking awesome!

Rocky's is really good, just don't be in a hurry. It's what makes it authentic.

I will say, almost every restaurant has the person receiving their tips at the end of the night, whether you've tipped them in cash or on a credit card. It's incredibly rare to find a restaurant that puts your credit card tips onto a paycheck.

What I meant by "tip in the check" is when the waitperson hands me the check with the amount owed and I add on the tip and then total the check. That gets charged to my card.

I never paid attention to how they got their money. I either was a busboy, a host. The only tippable restaurant job I had was at steakhouse where I cut steak at the table, so even if the waiter's tip was on the check, I already had mine. 😆

Yep. I know folks didn't like it when credit cards picked up steam and so your tip is in the check instead of your pocket.

Kay's and others used to let you know they were cheaper because they didn't have to pay credit card fees. Anyone know how much using a card adds to the bill now?

About 3% plus up to around 25 cents per transaction.

As a small business owner, I actually prefer credit/debit over checks/cash. It takes a step out for me not having to go to the bank and helps keep better track of things. Just my opinion.

Here's the thing everyone...

Go to Duck Donuts. Wait in line. Worth every second.

I realized what the kicker is after the wife and I decided we were going to bite the bullet and just wait in the absurdly long lines.

The kicker is that the donut is made fresh for you, right out of the machine. So you walk in, fill out a card with your number of donuts, add a coating (powder, cinnamon, etc), add a topping (blueberry, strawberry, etc), then add a drizzle. Then they make it hot and fresh for you, hot to the touch when you get it.

I may never get another donut anywhere else.

Depending on the business, credit card fees can be worth it just to shift the burden of collection to the credit card companies. Businesses get charged back for failing to deliver the product... not for the card holder's inability to pay. They work great when selling advertising.

I had the A1 peppercorn and my girlfriend had just a regular cheeseburger. It wasn't bad, but I don't see any reason to return.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Southern Charm burger sans the bbq sauce along with the garlic parm fries. I'm not sure how you ordered it but the key is to get the burger with some pink in the middle.

If you're going to deposit it into the bank where it can be tracked and taxed then by all means you'd prefer credit/debit.

I see where you're coming from. What happens, at the end of the night, is that the server owes in cash whatever was paid to the restaurant for the meal and the tax. The restaurant will deduct any credit card tips from the amount the server owes.

So if I had only 10 cash checks all night that totaled $200 and on credit card receipts I received $50 in tips, the restaurant would ask for $150 from me and the rest of that original $200 is recouped via the money from the credit card transaction.

The reason some servers prefer as much cash as possible is because they like to claim less in tips at the end of the night to the government so they can receive more money.

Duck Donuts just received an 82 health score, just sayin

Is anyone familiar with Wild Love Bakehouse on North Central ?

Duck Donuts was fine, but I'd have no problem going across the street to Krispy Kreme instead. I might return some day, but I rarely ever go buy donuts to begin with.

They are good, but so is KK.

The reason DD got dinged is because low level employees didn't know the answers to questions. It really isn't that big of a deal.
