Knoxville Restaurants

Potato salad is generally a big pain in the ass to make scratch in a restaurant. Especially one that doesn't offer baked potatoes or potatoe skins. Generally, places are going to get it in premade.

Sweet Ps nails it for me. That's good ish right there

It's nice to have two good spots for bbq here in town. That sweet Ps downtown is the devil for me. On my way home and sooooo easy to stop in and grab dinner

Me and my wife got married at the Standard, right next door, and at the last minute changed our rehearsal dinner from Calhouns to Sweet P's. The food was better and it was about 1/4 of the price so my parents were happy ha! We had the whole place full and it was a great time.

That's awesome! I like Calhouns for the prime rib and salads but the bbq at SP is way better. I have seen a few events at the standard that are catered by Buddy's or Calhouns though and kind of laughed.

Yea that's comical. Sweet P's wasn't open when we went and looked at the Standard the first time (from out of town, couldn't find a venue we liked in SC so I convinced my wife to go up to Knox to "see this venue", aka, go to the Mizzou game 😂)..

Anyways, booked Calhouns for the rehearsal dinner. Went back to Knoxville in May to meet with vendors and take another peek at the Standard and that's when we saw Sweet P's was open. Ate there and loved it. Got married on Boomsdsay weekend and called like 5 days before and bailed on Calhouns lol.

All around, killer weekend. Although the Bowling Green game almost gave me a stroke on my wedding day..

I'm almost positive I was eating at Sweet Ps when you got married. I was there that weekend and noticed a wedding when I was

Yea man that was probably me. Rehearsal dinner was Friday, wedding was Saturday, and then everyone went to Boomsday on Sunday.

All this sweet Ps talk...now I'm going to have to go for dinner

Haha that sounds good. Sweet P's is bit of a drive for me, so me and the wife are gonna hit Flamingo Grill tonight.

If you ever visit the Myrtle Beach area, Prossers is the go-to for BBQ. And it's a buffet with fried shrimp and hush puppies and all kinds of good stuff.

Buddy's has THE BEST hush puppies, no lie. I think they put crack in them. I've stopped by there on multiple occasions just to get a couple orders of the hush puppies. You may laugh at their Q but try the hush puppies.

If you like puppies pick some up at Cook Out. I can eat those like M & Ms

No contest between the two in my opinion. Buddy's may not be the best bbq in town, but their wings rank up there and the other meats are good enough. Tipping the scales are the hushpuppies and potato salad. Thumbs up in my book and I visit a few times during the year.

Buddy's chicken is great. Pork is average, but will do in a pinch.

Buddy's isn't bad for what it is and the half chicken on the bone is solid. I just found it funny to see a Buddy's truck basically in Sweet Ps driveway

Meh, I almost always pay cash in restaurants if at all possible.

More secure and the server's seem to prefer it.

Yep. I know folks didn't like it when credit cards picked up steam and so your tip is in the check instead of your pocket.

Kay's and others used to let you know they were cheaper because they didn't have to pay credit card fees. Anyone know how much using a card adds to the bill now?

I will say, almost every restaurant has the person receiving their tips at the end of the night, whether you've tipped them in cash or on a credit card. It's incredibly rare to find a restaurant that puts your credit card tips onto a paycheck.

about 2%, but you also have to consider lost sales by those who will not buy from you if you refuse debit/credit cards
