Knoxville Restaurants

Went to Gavino’s last night. Had the Grandma’s pizza (square cut) with sausage and black olives. It was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had.

If it's the same place I'm thinking of they used to have really good fried chicken...but it may have changed owners since then.

A local affiliate of one of the 3 major national networks isn't good enough? Fake news?

Not so much fake news as most likely poor reporting. The logic simply doesn't add up. You already have a standalone property with a single building, why in the hell would you build an effing strip mall? He only has one Double Dogs location that's in a strip mall and that's the one in Hardin Valley. All of his other locations are standalone buildings.

To collect rent from multiple tenants instead of relying on just food and beverage sales while competing against dozens of other establishments in the area? Plus the new DD would be in a more efficient space that can draw from traffic generated by the stores in the same shopping center.

Can't imagine it being as bad as First Watch.

Bad as compared to what?

Well, we did go to Scrambled Jakes. Got there at 10:15 for brunch and the wait was 35 min.

I had the egg white mushroom fritatta, toast, and turkey sausage (I have a restricted diet due to heart issues) and I liked First Watches Egg White omlette much better.

Family seemed to think the Scrambled Jakes was about the same as First Watch, except a shorter wait for Sunday brunch....hard to believe.

Anyone know what's going in the old CC pizza building on North Broadway? I've heard a McAlister's but it seems a bit small for one their locations.

McAlister's

Knoxnews.com:

"Amber Clark, director of marketing for Peak Restaurants said plans are still in place for McAlister's Deli to move into the former CiCi's Pizza, 2885 Tazewell Pike. She said the building is in a flood plain and plans are on hold until discussion with city officials are finalized."
