Anyone have thoughts on Cheddars?

chain garbage

That's a bit harsh... Cheddars is awesome for what it is. They don't advertise, so their food is a ridiculously good value. Not many places you can get a chicken alfredo dish for $8. And the food is good. It's on par at least with any other major chain. I would say it's better than Fridays, Ruby Tues, etc.

That being said, I don't think that's what the OP wanted to discuss in the thread. I think the topic was simply the best food in Knoxville, which Cheddar's absolutely is not. Also, it's a chain, so it's not unique to Knoxville.

maybe but I've just never understood why people choose to go there. On the weekends it's packed and the people waiting look like they'd be better suited at a buffet

Cheddars is alright as long as you go in not expecting to get gourmet food. For the price, it's pretty good.

I also agree the prices are pretty decent at Cheddars. I've been there twice(Gallaher View), love the atmosphere, but both times something got screwed up though. First time I was there I ordered a dirty vodka martinee and a cosmo was brough to the table. The second time I was there someone had hooked a regular coke tank up to the diet coke dispensor. Took them the whole dinner to figure that out. I blame these screw ups on employees though and not the company. I'm resilient though, I enjoyed the food both times and I'll go back.

Their buffalo chicken wrappers are excellent, and you get a whole lot for the price.

Is DTGB the best in Knoxville? Likely not, but if I am going to have someone visit me here in Knoxville, it is my top choice. Good food, good menu, great beer, not a chain (copper cellar, etc.) located downtown, and fair prices. For casual American dining, I think you can do no better in Knoxville than the brewery.

Great beer? Downtown's beer is awful
