KNS: UT athletics board should reopen its meetings to public

Think again. Look, I'm not saying there doesn't need to be oversight. Sorry, I assumed I didn't have to make the obvious clear. I mean there's a middle ground. Opening it up is good when final decisions are being made. Just making a point about running a business that if you're looking for creative ideas, you need to be able to brainstorm without everyone in the media jumping all over it.
'Twas a joke, nothing more.

Did anyone go to the meetings when they were open?

They were never open to the public.

Previously, a reporter from each news organization was allowed to attend a portion of the bi-annual meeting.

When the board was consolidated and meetings became more frequent, the "annual report" portion of the meeting that reporters were allowed to attend were eliminated.

The News Sentinel's coverage of this has been a bit misleading. The meetings were never open to the public, and only the annual report was open to media. This is not much of a change, in reality.
