ya'll don't pick on Tennesseefan07 too hard or his buddy Sabanocchio will send you a strongly worded PM.:eek:lol:

In 07's official bash montoya thread (although it could have been during my bash harvick thread), I was going round and round with him over his confusion over the use of the words "loose" and "lose". Sabanocchio then sent me a PM where he claimed to be an English teacher and that I should lighten up on 07.

yeah, I remember Jesse. Ran into him not too long ago actually. He just gave up racing last year. He said he just couldn't get the financial backing. He seemed alright with it, evidently he took it as far as he could and has moved on.

Broyles, do you know Mike Potter? I'm assuming you do with your knowledge and I shouldn't even have to ask. My papaw used to take me and one of my cousins to local races and growing up I thought he was the man.

broyles, you ever watched a race at Highland Rim Speedway in the big city of Ridgetop Tennessee?

Darrell Waltrip, Sterlin Marlin and Bobby Hamilton (jr and sr) raced there coming through the ranks.

Just wondering if anybody had ever heard of it.

Yeah, can't believe I didn't think of him! Although he raced in BGN not Cup. He was very good and won some smaller races like Radford and Coeburn VA. He has a younger brother whose name excapes me, who raced dirt late models at Kingsport when I was involved with the program there.

Heard of it, but never been there. I believe Sterling's father Coocoo raced there along with GC Spencer. Darrell once said he believed GC was the best driver he had seen up to that point. All of these guys raced at the Nashville Fairgrounds track. They even ran cup races there for many years.(Nashville)

Coocoo raced there too. I was able to see a couple Busch races there at Nashville. Casey Atwood I watched his Busch debut at Nashville.

You should go to Highland Rim. It's a a pretty neat place. My uncle raced there for awhile before he had to "grow up" as he put it and get a real job.:)

I've considered growing up a time or two, but so far I haven't seen any real advantage to doing it. I'll try to make it, I'll let you know, maybe you could join me.

Sounds good. I haven't been there in years but I live about 3 minutes from there.

Kyle is a class act. I will miss seeing him on the track, but like someone else said...he should get a job in the booth. He has always been good at that.

I've never really liked the idea of growing up either. There is absolutely no advantage to it.

if you were just beginning your career in racing, do you think it would benefit you the best to start out at Lonesome Pine (Coeburn) or Motor Mile in Radford? I know Coeburn is essentially on it's last legs, so I'm not sure which would be better. My buddy is debating between the two and thinking Motor Mile mainly because he's afraid LP might fold.

If they don't conflict in days they race, why not both? If I was choosing, I would go with Motor Mile.

thanks for the advice. From what he's read in the rules for this year, both tracks are requiring a different crate motor for the series he would be running in and I don't see how we could continually swap out motors every week for a different race and have him anywhere near competitive at either track.

That's news to me. What a dumb idea! The tracks shold be trying to work together for mutual benefit, but that's been a problem as long as I have been going to local tracks. They just cannot get together due to mistrust, jealousy or self interest, or old fueds. When I was involved with the Kpt. track, we tried to work out a non-conflicting schedule with another local track. They wouldn't even discuss it.

CooCoo Marlin used to drive for H.B. Cunningham back when local car dealers were enough to sponsor a car. It's amazing how fast the sport has grown and how much it cost to sponsor a car now. Casey Atwood had a lot of pressure when he was racing at Nashville. People were calling him the next Jeff Gordon at the time.

A local dealer, Rons Ford sponsored Nelson Stacy for Holman/Moody for several years, and East Tenn. Ford of Knox. also sonsored a car.

Atwood showed he had the potential to be very good. I think he was put into Cup too soon. I remember he sat
on the pole at Nashville for one of the last BGN races at the old track.

good to see a quality showing by Bobby Labonte in his race. Hope he can make some noise in the 500. Thankfully no one listened to TNfan07, otherwise Bobby would have been out of a ride.

Bobby Labonte is a much better driver than his recent results indicate, why he went to Petty is beyond me. One of the worst moves I've seen. If he were at Hendrick or Rousch, he would have as many as 10 more wins.

I have always respected the Terry and Bobby Labonte. I never pulled for them, but I never disliked either one of them.
