Kyle Petty considering retirement

CooCoo Marlin used to drive for H.B. Cunningham back when local car dealers were enough to sponsor a car. It's amazing how fast the sport has grown and how much it cost to sponsor a car now. Casey Atwood had a lot of pressure when he was racing at Nashville. People were calling him the next Jeff Gordon at the time.

Speaking of Local car dealers sponsoring a car:
Anyone ever heard of Grant Adcox, sponsored by Adcox Chevrolet owned by his father, chattanooga, TN. He was good in the ARCA but couldn't do much in the Winston Cup. Money was an issue, even back then. My dad worked on the guy's pit crew, was his Engine Guy for several years. Adcox got killed in a crash in the 89 Atlanta Journal 500.
Just wandering if anyone has ever heard of the guy? That is why Racing was better back then, Even the small time outfits could get in and compete.

Definitely remember Adcox, and remember his fatal wreck. My dad worked on a pit crew for a guy named George Greene of Johnson City in the early 60s. He and three others owned a Sportsman car which became BGN. Driver was Bud Rambo, finished 3rd in points.

Just another bit of info about Adcox my Dad told me not mentioned on his Wiki page. Found it on the following though: He was Rookie of the year in 75' and that year at Daytona 500 he had the fastest qualifying time because My Dad and the rest of his crew put Airplane Paint on the car back then and also welded the underpinning of the car to protect the tie rods and axles from drag. The Sanctions Dept. of Nascar made them take it off and My Dad said they would have Won if they hadn't been made to take it off. Now I'm not sure if he was talking about 75 (same year he won rookie of the year) or 79 the year his Wiki page states he had the 4th fastest time. My Dad is 63 if anything is misconstrued I'm blaming Old Age. Anyone who disagree's just refer to the line above rbroyles avatar (Old Age and Treachery Wins):)

The full Quote is Old age and treachery beats youth and enthusiasm. Paul Newman after winning 24 hours of Daytona at age of 60 something.
