2012 MLB draft slot money was $1,825,000 for the 21st pick. That's life changing money for sure but......if I had to bet tonight, I'd bet he goes to UT.

Three years on a college campus and pitching in the SEC would be much better for an 18 yr old kid. But, 1.825 million would be very tempting.

Taxes, agent, other misc expenses. College is a much better option. In today's money, if it's not over $4, go to college!

Jones will honor UVa commitment

Man, it would be cool to see Kyle release a statement like this kid has. Very impressive to see someone with the maturity to say this to scouts. There is zero doubt in my mind that college is the fastest way to the show and a better development environment for an 18-22 year old than the buses of MiLB. Here's hoping Kyle agrees and is willing to take a chance on that signing bonus.

plenty of HS arms have made the majors at 20-22. or even 23-24 when college arms are just reaching AA-AAA

Silly post. Any lower to middle class kid that turns down that kind of money is making a foolish gamble.

He will be at UT

What gives you that impression? Do you know? or are you just guessing?

Also I found it very interesting the way dad talked about Kyle in the TWITB feature on the Simcox's. He said, "To know that AJ will be the starting shortstop when my son Kyle attends school is unbelievable." Doesn't necessarily mean anything but he didn't bat an eye when he said it.

FWIW, he is a very good poster that appears to have some connection to the AD (he's stated what it was at one point, but I can't remember what it is). Has a long track record in the football recruiting forum

I thought the same thing, definitely caught my attention when I saw that comment. There was no hesitation. It could be nothing, but it changed my perception of the situation.

2013 Top 100 Draft Prospects (May 10): Jonathan Gray Takes Top Spot - BaseballAmerica.com

Baseball America has Kyle listed as the #35 best overall prospect in the draft, but implies with their 27th overall projected pick that it will take something extra to get him to sign.

In their breakdown (subscriber content) they say mostly the same old stuff. Emerged this spring, high velo, great breaking ball, low effort delivery. But at the end they add this... "Serrano naturally is a Tennessee recruit, and it’s hard to imagine his father not bringing him in to help the Volunteers."

Being ready for professional baseball on the field and being ready for professional baseball off the field are two very different subjects. Dave Serrano the parent will know what is best for his son. But, I will admit, $2,000,000 can certainly have an effect on a decision.

The "low effort delivery" pointed out in the post above is very evident when you see Kyle pitch. Very rare to see an 18 yr old pitcher throw so hard while appearing to exert so little effort.

I was just reading Keith Laws updated rankings for the draft, KS is sitting at 21, this is not a mock draft, but a list of the top prospects. I was checking out the grading system and I clicked on the KS profile.

I decided to check his grades next to Ryne Stanek who is currently at 13 on the list and who we saw pitch against the Vols a couple of days ago.

Other than the fastball, KS grades out better in nearly every category. :eek:hmy:

Kyle Serrano outduels Sheffield and Farragut beats Tullhoma 2-1. Unofficially, Serrano gave up 3 hits and Sheffield gave up 4. A great high school game.

Kyle was dominant today, Tullahoma didn't really hit a single ball hard that I can remember. Control looked alot better than it had his last few outings, and he was sitting between 90-92 throughout the game which I think is a little below his average.

Kid is still a top 25 talent. Like I said he was masterful today 10:1 K/BB ratio. Don't think his decision will come down to money, if he wants he'll be a first rounder, if not he'll come to TN. Really just depends on what he wants to do.

Ps. If UT would've recruited exclusively from Farragut since Delmonico left, they would've had a better record than trying to go for all these out of state "studs".. But I digress..

He had a very rough outing yesterday in relief. Two wild pitches with runner on third and both scored. Probably arm weary and command was not there. Great talent, hope he comes instead of going to the draft.

It's never good when a UT signee struggles.

Very wrong in this case. Command issues along with a drop in velo late in the season have pushed him out of the money range he would have taken. That is the thought coming from those close to scouts
