Mullen’s recruiting is a significant upgrade over what UF was getting under Mac and will continue to improve as he goes. Florida is dropping 2 billion, yes 2 billion into facilities over the next several years with the emphasis on football. Florida is basically saying, “y’all want an arms race on facilities, we’re in and we’re taking it to a unprecedented level.” UF’s rival fans act like Florida is getting nobody in recruiting, when the fact is Mullen is reeling in plenty of outstanding players, and will have back-to-back top 10 classes when it’s all said and done. All these alleged recruiting struggles yet Florida’s 2020 class is ranked 8th right now nationally and 4th in the SEC behind Bama, UGA and LSU. And with a great season and some serious talent still considering UF strongly, UF could finish with a top 5 class or better.

Mullen took McElwain talent and went 10-3 in year one with a major bowl win. He finished 7th in the country in the final AP (tied with Georgia) and 6th in the final coaches poll (two spots ahead of Georgia). So Mullen finished better than Kirby in YEAR ONE with someone else’s players. And if you look at Kirby’s year 1 at UGA v Mullen’s year 1 at Florida, it’s a totally lopsided win for Mullen. Kirby lost to McElwain that year.

Georgia is in trouble in the East with a resurgent Florida under Mullen and they know it. That’s why Georgia and their fans are so damn nervous and worked-up right now.

Yay

Yep, Florida has questions on the o-line. I trust Hevesy and Mullen to get that position coached-up way more than I trust Kirby to get his WR’s coached up.

Look at all the preseason publications, the ones I’ve looked at have more UF players on All-American lists than UGA players.

Y’all sleeping on Florida and bowing down to Georgia because they’ve had a great year and a pretty good year, last two seasons. Watch.

Nobody is sleeping on Florida, we just don’t like you guys. And Georgia is objectively better than you right now. Things can change but that is reality in the here and now.

I respect that post, especially the part about you not liking Florida. That’s honest and direct. But regarding Uga being better than UF, I would say the national consensus among coaches at the end of last season was that Florida was slightly better than Georgia (#6 v #8). The national consensus among AP voters at the end of last year was that FL and Uga were exactly the same (tied for 7th). Yes, Georgia won the head to head matchup but they ended the year losing two in a row and their 3rd loss was an absolutely shellacking to LSU.

So the question becomes who lost more and who is bringing more back. I’d say UF lost less and brings back both coordinators. Georgia lost both coordinators.

We’ll see.

holy crap dude.

you'd of been a hit around here if you were a TN fan durin the Jones years lol.

Chris Steele was literally listed as the backup CB in spring practice.

I honestly think the person is having fun just arguing or we are teaming up on someone who has a mental break with reality caused by the dumpster fire at UF... tough scene to watch it live in this thread.

UF fans haven't come to the realization that they are not a dominant force in CFB anymore. Their delusions of yesteryear are enjoyable to watch. Even when they won the East with the Swamp Donkey it was only because the rest of the East was miserable bad. UF fans are becoming as insufferable as UGA fans. I hope they both lose every game this year.

“Not a dominant force in college football” mere months after the coaches voted them the 6th best team in the Nation at season’s end, after they pounded Michigan in a bowl game, had a top 10 recruiting class, fended off the NFL for their defensive coordinator, had a great spring and are looking at a top 6 or 7 preseason ranking. Yeah, that’s not dominant, but it ain’t bad. lol

Good luck this year.

Dominant teams don't lose to UK and Mizzou. And Michigan was so overrated you almost made me choke on my lunch with that one.

Yes, a backup CB. UF’s CB depth will look a whole lot different in the fall than it did in the Spring. CJ Henderson, arguably the best CB in college football and future top 10 NFL pick is the lockdown starter on one side. Marco Wilson is the lockdown starter on the other side. Wilson was just as good as Henderson before the injury. Trey Dean is the 3rd best CB on the team and started 11 games last year as a true Freshman, will likely start at NB. That’s your top 3. You also have experienced backups on the roster in McWilliams and Edwards. After those 5 is where Steele would have competed for playing time along with other Freshmen, most notably Kaiir Elam, Jaydon Hill and Chester Kimbrough. So Steele was competing with two returning backups, plus three fellow blue-chippers for playing time. The only reason Steele got good reps during the spring was because they held Wilson out, they were repping Dean at the Nickel spot, Edwards got in trouble, Hill was recovering from a HS injury and Elam and Kimbrough were not yet on campus.

There are 8 CB’s on UF’s roster, Steele would have been the 9th. So if you’re expecting Steele’s transfer to cause UF’s defense to turn into a Big 12 defense, you may be disappointed.

Missouri was a bad loss, Kentucky was a good team, especially catching Florida early before Mullen fully figured out what pieces he had. Michigan was a top 10 team all year with the number 1 defense in America coming into the UF game. Florida had a great 1st year under Mullen, period.

So what. Go back to the gators board. 👋

Kentucky was a one-dimensional, overrated team that we destroyed. UF should’ve, too.

It’s all excuses but Florida was missing on defense; David Reese at MLB, Cece Jefferson and DE, Marco Wilson was injured on the second play of the game. Benny Snell ran for about 300 yards that game. Plus, Mullen called probably his worst game of the year offensively, throwing almost exclusively once UF got behind. Franks was still in gun-shy, fragile Franks mode at that point.

It may sound odd, but I don’t think UF would go on to have the success they had overall had they not lost that Kentucky game. It was an eye-opener to players and coaches.

Michigan was supposed to be a legit playoff contender. Florida may have been ecstatic to be in that bowl, but Michigan was not. Their season was a failure at that point.

You're just supporting my point about Georgia being objectively better. Great teams can overcome injuries because they have quality depth. Florida may have better coaches than Georgia or not.. no idea, but Georgia has a stacked roster. They're closer to Alabama in that regard than you guys. We'll see what happens, but Georgia is dominant right now in terms of talent.

Better check Georgia’s WR and DL group and their QB depth before you call it a stacked lineup. For me, aside from their O-line, and Swift and Fromm, I’m not impressed.

You sound like a lot of us did when Dan Mullen I mean Butch Jones was coaching here.

Stop saying top 10 recruiting class dude..... Several left. Face reality

How do you know that? It’s hard to hypothetically project how a coach would do at other places. Mullen is getting big time talent at Florida, top ten talent. With his ability to coach on game day, that’s good enough to win.
But he ain’t KEEPING em! Important step he’s skippin. 😏

If UF wants to drop 2 billion on upgrades, more power to 'em. No sense in following an idiot off a cliff if he's hell bent on killing himself.
