‘23 LA QB Arch Manning (Texas commit)

Skip 22 QB and go all in on Arch. Build the relationship and let him fall in love with the offense.

You have to take a 22qb. You could lose some guys to transfer after someone takes the reigns this year and wins competition. He also isn’t demanding it and he isn’t close to a slam dunk for TN. Not even sure we were a serious option when Pruitt was here. This isn’t Peytons son. This is Coopers. I feel like people forget this and hold on to the expectation that he should come here since he is a MANNING. Would Peyton even want to subject his nephew to the expectations here following his footsteps?

Namath wasn’t anywhere near elite. Stabler was good but not elite. When I say elite I am meaning the category that includes names like Manning, Brady, Montana and Elway.
It’s impossible to compare what is elite across decades..... rule changes and the way the game is played .......Impacted tremendously how those four QBs were able to play the game.

I think there are certain players that could play on any era. Manning and Brady both fit that imo. They can read defenses like nobody else.

They won Super Bowls. That's the Apex. We've got Manning.

Dan Marino is as elite as elite gets. Namath, nor Stabler, shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence with him.

Rings add...but, not end all, be all.

Maybe but the rules and era are so different..... neither qb would be playing out of the spread..... there wasn’t much of a short passing game..... dbs were allowed to be much more hands on..... you could hit the qb any way you wanted to hit them.... they didn’t have close to the same treatments and recoveries from injuries.

Marino is a perfect example of how the system and rules affect a QBs.....his senior year at Pitt..... he threw for 2,400 yds 58% 17 tds 23 ints his senior year.

The speed limit on campus is his grandpa’s jersey number...everybody except Peyton’s matriculated there. EXPECTATIONS?

Give the Dolphins credit, they saw the potential in the measurables. In his 17 seasons, Marino only had one 1000 yard rusher; and, only four top 10 defenses.

He's top 3 all time, imo.

As far as just natural arm talent Marino may be the best that’s ever played. Could you imagine him playing today with the rules so much in favor of the offense? I mean he set the passing records in 1984. Marino might throw for 6000 and 60 TDs in today’s game.

Following Archie and Eli at a place like Ole Miss with low expectations as a school is nothing like following a guy considered one of the greatest QBs ever in NfL, best player ever at the school and a guy constantly still in the spotlight at a school with enormous expectationsZ

Once again, Archie I is every bit the legend...if not more. All the things you said about Peyton...ditto for Daddy. And there’s no Doug Atkins or Reggie White to cut into that lore.

It wasn’t about Marino being elite...... he was considered one of the best QBs in the draft...... the dolphins were lucky he fell to them.... my point is that it is impossible to compare qbs from past decades bc of all the changes in favor of QBs and offenses in general.... if you looked at dan Marino and Nathan peterman stays at Pitt.... one would come to the conclusion that peterman was a much better qb when in reality it is the changes in rules and how offenses are ran.

Guys, don’t compare stats from the 60s to the 80s or today. The game was completely different. DBs could bump, push, etc the WR as long as the ball wasn’t in the air.

Add to it OL had the keep their hands in. They couldn’t grab the DL like they do now. Offenses were at a disadvantage then.

INTs then weren’t the bugaboo they are today. Many were simply punts on 3rd down throwing deep down field on a jump ball. Teams threw deep far more then than today. Hell a team may go a complete game today throwing check downs & never throw deep. In the 60s, especially the AFL, teams would throw deep almost every series.

Namath was a good QB, not a great QB, but he did it basically with no legs. He’d be better today with improved medical procedures instead of the butcher shop surgeries they did back then. He was an icon with his lifestyle and he won the biggest upset in my 50+ years in watching pro football
