Sampson may have a 4.0, too, but J. Williams, the other RB in the class, is the one who they've been touting as the 4.0 student going into pre-med.
Apparently Kaleb Webb has a 4.0 GPA as well. I know the whole "well spoken" thing became a running joke, but these coaches went out and found high character young men as well as being dynamic athletes. In this new era of NIL, it will be important to find kids that the student part of student- athlete is still important to them.Samson says he has a higher GPA than his 40 time.
If I'm not mistaken Phillips is a smart kid too. Seems like a pattern. Talent, work ethic, character, intelligence.... may or may not work but I like the direction and effort.Apparently Kaleb Webb has a 4.0 GPA as well. Sounds like a recipe for success. It's likely to lead to less turnover and more kids with accountability and greater work ethic. If I'm not mistaken Phillips is a smart kid too. Seems like a pattern. This may sound like convenient thinking... and maybe it is.... but I think there is a significant window for Heupel's strategy. I think to the degree some of the highly rated kids are motivated by NIL promises... there's a high risk for locker room drama and jealousy. That's especially true for the significant number of 4/5* busts.Sounds like a recipe for success. It's likely to lead to less turnover and more kids with accountability and greater work ethic.
Agree 100%. I also think these big NIL deals to incoming freshmen will breed laziness in many cases. If you have 18 year old kids from bad upbringing making more than their position coach, it won't end well. You also have kids like Travis Hunter that is going to JSU for the big NIL money, that will likely get robbed or killed as a result. I know that sounds harsh, but it's also reality. This may sound like convenient thinking... and maybe it is.... but I think there is a significant window for Heupel's strategy. If he's finding guys with all of those great personal qualities and talent too... who specifically ARE NOT expecting immediate NIL riches... then the lack of drama and disruption could make it a better team.
