And with your head-in-a** attitude we never will be.

Wasn’t too long ago we were better than both of those programs. Stop acting like it’s impossible.

Never said it wasn't possible. It won't be easy but it's surely is possible

The way it happens is:

1) recruit at the same level Butch did

2) develop players at a much higher rate than Butch

3) coach much better on game day

4) have a disciplined program which ultimately was the downfall of butch

Lol

We aren't Clemson or Georgia right now

You're right, we're not. But we never will be if we don't start chasing more talented players because we believe we have "no chance." That attitude screams that you're okay at staying mediocre. It's time for Tennessee to stop being a national joke and start showing we're still the proud program built by General Neyland, Johnny Majors, and Phil Fulmer.

He didn't recruit at that great of a level. Ever notice that our classes were filled by NSD by high 3 star and low 4 star players? Ever wonder why we weren't in it for the ELITE game changers who waited until NSD to announce? Like Bassmaster said "Pruitt is fishing in a different pond than Jones was".

We're Tennessee. Yes, we're down right now, but historically, we're a top 10 program. We can be again, but we won't be if we keep the losing mentality that's been pounded into us the past 10 years. We have to be the sleeping giant that wakes up and shakes the college football foundation to its knees. Will it happen? I don't know. The point is, it could happen, but only if we fight for it. You can't give up before you even start.

You guys taking constant shots at Butch are getting old. Butch probably knew he was going to Bama or Georgia so he didn't waste the time on him. Now that we have Pruitt, this kid is more a possibility. Butch certainly had his faults but working hard at recruiting wasn't one of them.

Yep, you're right. Butch had this whole college football thing figured out...

Butch Signed plenty of game changers. Just couldn't get the best out of them.

JMO, Butch's classes weren't elite, but they were better than you give him credit for. If he could actually develop players, they would be seen as much better. The problem was they came here and never got coached up. They never got better. I get sick when I think of the talent he wasted over the years.

They were definitely better than Dooley for sure. But they weren't like when Fulmer was in his prime. I always got that vibe from Butch that he chased after guys he knew he could get and tried to take the unknown out of the silliness that is college recruiting. Pruitt seems like Kiffin in that he might not get everyone he offers, but he isn't going to be afraid to swing for the fences.

Bruin is wrong about not offering a kid for whatever reason, but he isn't wrong about Butch's classes.

We have had talent for several years now. Hell we were a few points away from being 11-1 in 2015. Piss poor coaching/development has been our problem.

He did suck as a coach but his classes were good enough for us to win. Stop with your little b**** a** *****info and grow a pair. This is a new era. Start acting like it. We. Will. Win

What the **** did I say to trigger you? Not b****** at all. Butch’s classes were overrated. We were never going to be elite with them. That’s all I said.

Pruitt, on the other hand is going after elite guys from all across the country and I believe he’s going to land a good amount.

You fired up about the DT he signed?

What about the latest RB we are going after?

Once again, you have a point, but do you trust that Pruitt is taking some lower rated guys because he feels they will fit his system and will contribute? We're not going to get every 5* we chase, and team needs have to be addressed. Coaches evaluate film to see who has tools they can work with. Right now, we need to accept their evaluations and hope they can develop talent where the previous staff failed. And sometimes lower rated players become stars(Al Wilson). Not always, but coaching makes a difference.

It's a month until signing day and we've had a coach for only two weeks.

Do you honestly think we are going to sign a top five class right now?

We will get some studs, but we will also have to roll the dice and gamble some. It's the nature of these type of classes.

You mean the DT from the No 1 HS in America? Yeah as a matter of fact I am excited about that.

Lol. Wasn't hard beating out that offer list.

Point is the recruiting profiles aren't going to be very different between Butch and Pruitt. Bass is FOS thinking we are going to be fishing from other waters in terms of only 4 and 5 star guys.

The real difference needs to be what happens once they get to campus because we all know Butch failed in that area

You mean like the guys from Clemson and UGA who didn't waste their time with Mays because he was the child of a former UT player, grew up in Knoxville and had previously been committed to UT. Butch got 4+ million dollars a year. It was his F'ing job to waste his time and make sure no stone was left unturned.

What's tiring is rehashing the frustration with Butch, Kiffin, Dooley, etc. Those guys are now history and all the complaining about them now won't change a thing. If living in the past and all the accompanying frustrations makes you feel better, that's your prerogative but seems like it would be more productive looking at what the new staff is doing and anticipating the improvements we all hope they bring to the field next fall.
