Lady Vol Hoops Central: Chattanooga

Btw everyone else notice Faith Dupree? She's the gal that transferred to UTC last year after saying she wasn't happy about the amount of playing time she was getting here. She played well for UTC tonight. Izzy, on the other hand, just, WOW. I hate to call out players but how many times did she turn the ball over??

i hate to bring everything back to football, but this shows how a coach is everything to a program.

i hope that the lady vol program doesn't slide downhill. it would really be sad to the legacy that summit built not be maintained

The program will be fine. This team is young and is still learning the new system that Holly implemented. Two of the Top 10 recruits are coming in next year. Holly definitely has her work cut out for her this year though.

Congratulations to UTC though. They've got a very good team that would give a lot of teams trouble. However, the Lady Vols should've won by 15+.

Southern Conference coaches rated Chattanooga to finish 3rd in their conference, so they aren't even the best team in their conf. Please, no more talk of a National Championship. Lets hope for more wins than losses this year. Next year should be better.

Anyone who thought the team this year was National Championship material is insane. This team is too young and too inexperienced to do that well. However, they should win games against Southern Conference opponents.

Ugly! Can Spani ever help this team? If you can't get open looks against Chattanooga, it doesn't look good the rest of the way IMO. And we give up 80 points after focusing on defense and rebounding and pushing tempo? Yikes! We need Burdick to unleash that offseason improvement she's been working on.

It wasn't just Spani tonight. Izzy and Meghan also played awful.

Holly was an awful floor coach last year and part of that was not getting the right people on the floor at the right times. Izzy should have been on the bench. It was apparent she didn't have it tonight.

If this team is going to do anything Holly and the team will have to grow together. The team will have to develop some grit and personality. Graves will be a good one and there are some pieces to work with but they are young.

I wonder if Pat was sitting behind the bench yelling? I am sure that would be a violation of some sort but it had to be hard for her to sit and watch this if she was there.

Agreed! Those two do have the redemptive quality of playing hard, however.

I really don't know what's happened to Taber. I know she's battled injuries throughout her career here but she used to be a huge threat, especially from the 3 pt line, early in her career. She has totally regressed since her Freshman/Sophomore seasons.

No idea here. She looks leaner and better conditioned than ever, but seems to not get any elevation on that jumper and can't seem to take any defender off the dribble.

Holly doesn't have much experience as a coach. Sitting there all those years while Pat coached the team is not experience. We fans had that same experience but I don't feel qualified to run the team.

I feel bad for Holly. She is expected to pick right up where Pat left off. Ain't gonna happen. Probably never will. Don't think that getting a new coach is the answer. How many coaches out there are on Pat's level. Well, probably Geno, but he isn't going anywhere. Neither are any other coaches that are highly rated. Why would they leave for a program that is showing signs of an increasingly unsupportive management. Lets face it. There is nobody out there as good as Pat was. The sad thing is that there will be many fans who move on to other teams, or sports. It's an unfortunate truth that the huge fan base was mainly a result of consistent winning. Just human nature to want to be associated with a winner. By the way, Pat was at the game sitting quietly and keeping calm. Exactly what she should be doing for the sake of her own health.

injuries have plagued her,the whole time she has been here,IIRC hasn't she all ways been a slow starter ? if I'm not mistaken,it takes her a bit to get going

and another problem is the youth of this team, freshmen and sophomores everywhere, there were probably jitters for all the new players, they will come out of it,they just need to get some experience

The veterans let us down tonight. Spani was a no show along with Burdick. Kamiko didn't show up either. Simmons kept them in the game in the second half. Without her it would have been ugly. Graves and Carter looked good. I thought Carter looked better than Massengale running the point. Jones has some moves but has trouble finishing sometimes. The girls looked like they were thinking too much and were just a tick off. Izzy or Graves would flash open and Burdick or Spani were a half second slow throwing it in so the defense had time to react. The two snowbird buckets in the second half really hurt. Massengale and Williams both went to sleep on those. Keep the faith folks, it will get better. I'll be at GT rooting them on. It will be interesting to see how they react.

What makes you wonder about the coaching is that the talent on this team is undeniable. Massengale was number 3 in the 2011 class and Burdick was number 5. Graves was number 5 in this last years class. I don't think Chattanooga has a player in the top 100 of either class and yet they dominated this game. I don't think you can win consistently when you can't handle and pass the ball. I don't think you can win consistently with Guards shooting 25 to 30 shots. We should have been able to dominate Chattanooga inside yet they dominated us.

Which means very little. I would put money on Chatt winning their conference again this year for the regular season, which has basically become a yearly occurrence under Wes Moore. That guy should've been picked up by a big program years ago.

Being here in the Chattanooga area and following the Lady Mocs on Sports reports, newspaper etc... They are very good and veteran team. I think they returned almost everyone off last season's squad.

Wes goes to my church. He sits about three rows in front of us every Sunday (that he's able to be there). I feel a special loyalty to him because of that, aside from the fact that I went to UTC.

I could not have been more proud last night! I am so happy for him and his players!

But I'm still a Lady Vols fan too. :)

I am also originally from Chattanooga and know a lot about the program. First of all UT is my favorite team hands down, but I will say UTC is my second favorite when it comes to Women's basketball. The Lady Mocs are no push over and has always been that especially at home!! They have a veteran squad thats returning, great coach, fan base is great, especially when their at home. Lady Vols are young this year, with inexperience players, Spani has been a disappointment on defense and sometimes offensively, Megan takes about 10-15 ill advised shots, Kamiko has never been the same from her knee surgery, and Massengale had a bad game this game. I think the LV's will be alright further down the season this was their first road game in a hostile environment, against a veteran team. If anything the lost and the game was probably best for them. They got their first loss out the way and now they know their not invincible, plus they went into an environment that was very hostile. If anything this games helps them! GO LV's!!
